Looks like the "freeworld" ain't so free after all!
I been in a deep dark depression for the last two weeks , trying to figure out what to do. I got offered a nice number along the Australian"goldcoast" back in the marine industry. There's an official shortage of around 3,000 workers within this industry believe it or not. So , I've been wrestling with my conscience to whether I go back to the corporate whoredom of marine management and lose the freedom I have of motorcycles , rallying , and enjoying riding with my mates . So the company says , " send off your visa paperwork asap , cos we'll want you on our doorstep as soon as we've done the telephone interview."
Have a look at what it costs to get into Australia these days-
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i.htm#charges
hope the link works!
Click on the PDF file and it'll give a full listing of what it'll cost you and your family , oh and don't forget the $10,000 bond and $300 each person health checks. and if you're rejected , you lose the initial application money too.
I'm amazed - I knew American was now hard work , but Australia?? This is a country that is crying out for doctors , nurses , mechanics , welders , bodyshop men....
I guess it's made my mind up for me - If that's what they charge for an English family, who has no criminal records , no debts and are self sufficient - then they can stuff their friggin country and their job vacancies too.
Stuck with me a little longer , I'm afraid folks!

Used to be you only had to steal a sheep and you got free passage, no sense of history with some peeps. A thought though, being in the marine industry, they probably didn't want you as they have enough 'Boat People' already.
Ewokandtuck personal immigration services would be pleased to offer you a service which is second to none. We have been operating in the field of personal movement since 1945.
"Verdamt gut service" AH 1945 .... is just one glowing reference. We used to specialise in South America, today the world is your oyster.........

ok I was clever and read the pdf doc and you can't really begrudge the health care cos you should have to pay taxes before you can claim medicare (we should have it here too)
the $10k is an assurance bond which your employer should put up for you, that's what usually happens
if you want to go there I'd ask your employer if they are going to stand bond for you

been in the marine industry my self it has become apparent, that if a company anywhere wants you to work for them abroad..........be it austraila, america, canada, timbucktoo three of four, they will sort the paper work for you, or with you footing the bill.
besides they have no culture down under last time i was there it went all posh you had to wear a shirt with sleves in the bar on a sunday ffs.

There's fees for yourself , spouse and kids on top of all that. Installments 1 and 2.
I know what you're saying about "sponsored" employment - this company approached me asking if I was interested. "Yes" says I , "although I want a full relocation package for me and family."
Now it's "okay , get your paperwork ready to be on our doorstep" Seems they want to shirk costs.
Y'know , it's not a nice industry to be in and I've been trying to stay away from it for so long ( 22 years in fact!)- but it's like a bloody drug that keeps drawing me back.
This year was the first year I haven't worked boatshows and it was hard to break away.
I jacked my last boat magazine freelance gig last week , so that helps me clear my little head too.
It's really time to do something else - all the signs are pointing to it!
I always dreamed of being a "Riverdancer"..Mmm...............? :)
