ok the way i know it is
Back Patch clubs are the HA, roadrats, etc who wear their patches on the back
Side pacth are Mcc clubs which often are affiliated to above pattches usually fron side
no patch owners clubs, etc etc
in the end we are all motorcycle entusiasts

Back patches - MC - are the hardline biker guns'n'drugs don't fuck with me or fuck with the club attitude. Most likely to take offense to your breathing too near them.
Front patch - MCC - a bit less (likely to be) committed than above.
Side patch - MCC - a group of close friends that like to party together
No patch - those who don't feel the need to belong to a group

i was a fully paid up member of a back patch wearing 'club' and i have to say i got a real buzz out of it. after a couple of years though and several stints in police cells it lost its attraction. i get my kicks these days just enjoying the bike and today i've been on an approx 50 mile run to bewdley and back.

Hey!! I lived next door to a HA member for 7 years, they gave me my first proper job and I have good mates in MC's. Thing is - as friendly as they are to their friends I've also seeen what makes some of these people tick and some of it aint too pretty.
Yes, I know people in general can be, umm, unpleasant but I don't find myself at the same parties and pubs as general people.

Here's my two pennorth...after some of the things I've seen I wouldn't trust the average backpatch wearer as far as I could throw him!For example (no names no pack drill) a small club was having their 2nd rally, everyone was really looking forward to it after the success of the previous year's do.The local MC turned up,the atmosphere was lower than you'd believe.People were terrorised, parts stolen off bikes, any dissenters were beaten up and one poor sod was stabbed, luckily not seriously.Later we found out that the rest of the club were waiting in a bus in a nearby town in case of 'resistance',armed, and I DO NOT exaggerate, with firearms. The MCC broke up shortly after. The reason for this?Just for the hell of it and to stamp their 'authority'.I've known of other clubs to cancel rallies and throw the towel in because the local outlaw club decided to take an interest.NOT BLOODY FUNNY!

I know quite a few HA and they have always done alright by us (Lickle side patch club) They turn up at our events and have never caused trouble! In fact the biggest dickhead I know has been trying for ages to get in (HA)and they wont have him, because he is such a dickhead! There are bad and good sides to everything, you cant class everyone who has a backpatch as a trouble maker and general lout! There are some! and there are some genuine decent people! Take people as you find em I say! :o

Simple! A back patch is a patch sewn on the back. A side patch is a patch sewn on the side. No patch well I guess you can work that one out!
Not all backpatch clubs are MC, not all MC are backpatch.

After nearly 40 years of backpatch clubs in Britain I think the police know enough already. After what I've experienced over the years I think I'm justified in not trusting backpatch wearers. And by the way,I reckon the original question is valid, not everyone knows how it works.

Big Gal has posted before with 31 posts, yes not many but that doesn't necessarily mean she's the fuzz.
And I'm sure the fuzz have had years of experience to know who is who and what they belong to.

rubbish. ncis has ongoing investigations into all types of orgs. they dont just stop cos they think they 'know enough', the point is that the old bill will ask 'obvious' questions in the hope of that leadin on to finding out specific info. if this thread hadnt flared up then mebbe 'big gal' might have casuyally asked nitrowing what he meant by his comment.
yeah 'big gal' may have asked the question validly but there are a lot of places on the web to find out that info and as i pointed out before it is being asking by someone who is not a regular on this form.

even the police prolly wouldnt be dumb enough to make it their first question and 31 posts in over eight months isnt exactly regular is it? fayji gave a answer to the original question and what was the reply? 'I dont exactly get it...' opening the way to asking more.

See - I knew some shi t was gonna come up over this. I've just come home from drinking with a back patch guy and a few of us regular bikers. The club member wanted to fill my mate in cos he thought he was being 'pointed at'. So I licked the side of his face (in my normal friendly manner) and the subject is dropped. Fact - my mate was mentioning MC guys R'n'B t-shirt. Fact - MC mate wanted to fill the other (sound) guy in.
Don't try and tell me about patches. They're all a bunch of hard men with something to prove. Some of them have made me back down and I've stood up to them in other instances and made them back down. So fuck. Don't talk to me, beat me up, call me a wanker - but you'll never call me a liar. :p

PAT! Erm...Maybe its time this thread was wound up! I had me doubts about it early on! How many Bikers DO NOT know the differance between MC`s and MCC`s MRC`s e.c.t. ? I think its just a wind up and appears to be doing just that! Sorry to the original poster, but you dont join a biker site and ask stuff like that on your first post! :o

I can't understand this backpatch/sidepatch lark. The bottom line is that we are all nuts in some form or other about bikes.
Wherever bikers form/gather, we have a common bond in talking about them. So why have an attitude towards a fellow biker? Jeezus, it's bad enough having the gummerment enforcing legislation on us!
So does this mean that MAG/BMF members are backpatch clubs then?
I, personally don't go to rallies. More out of the fact that I really don't like camping! But the otherside of things is that I also feel a bit intimidated by these stories of invading "backpatch" clubs/members. Maybe it's me, I feel that I'm missing out on a fun thing meeting fellow bikers and having a good laugh and party, occassionally. That's one reason why I like the 100% Forum Parties. Just a great bunch of peeps gathering for a good drink and party with no hang ups.
Perhaps I should start a "Jumper Patch" club and all members turn up in jumpers like in my avatar! I bet that will get a reaction at some rallies!

yer missin a great party! if ya think Forum parties rock ya gotta come to a rally! Stories about invading clubs are much exagerated! Im sure everyone has there own horror story to tell but from my expeirience and that is over ...erm....26 to 27 years of rallies Ive NEVER been involved in a fight at a rally! And I have done some VERY SILLY THINGS! I have run over a tresstle tables, played air guitar and knocked all the beer flying! and lived to tell the tale with only a few odd looks from "backpatch members" who sat around it! Not that I`d advise that sort of behaviour! but my point is rallies are still friendly places and its HIGHLY inlikely you`ll get into bother unless you go looking for it! besides, who would try and tackle a pullover like that! :o I`ll get my coat!

Well I asked a very similar question about 3 years ago on here, because I genuinley didn't understand it as I was a biker virgin when I met Garry almost 5 years ago, i hadnt even been on the back of a bike, I felt stupid asking questions as everyone just seemed to know except for me. I just went along to rallies and did waht some female friends told me "not to make eye contact with any backpatch clubs or MC clubs" i was terriefied and heard loads of stories.
I got some good responses to my questions on here.
Searching the web for answers proved pointless as all I got was "if you need to ask you wouldn't understand"
Now I have some really good friends who are members of an MC one in particular has become more of a brother, now I do understand the MC/Backpatch thing and do have respect for them.
Well i could go on and on but as they say "if you need to ask you wouldn't understand" :) ;)

I think we'd have trouble with the local social workers and white coat and prozac giver outerers, rather than the police if we all strted going around in public with a jumper on like yours. :D

I've liked bikes since I was a kid but didn't know anything about the biking community until I met Dougie. As far as my mum was concerned anyone on a bike was a hell's angel! That was one of the first questions I asked along with lots of others. If I hadn't met him it might have been me asking the question at the start of this thread.

Don't even go there FT!!! It's a bit like saying are people more MAG or BMF in attitude. Some clubs affiliate to MAG, some to the BMF for whatever reason. (and no, it's usually got naff all to do with cheap insurance for rallies as well)

Way to go Big Gal.
I have to wonder about about peeps who jump on the train pick holes in other peoples posts, insult them by suggesting who they are or what they are,
The question that was asked, is asked everyday, does that make everyone who asks a dodgy person,
You had this type of thing a while back [Remember the spelling thing] after that person upset quite afew members on site they disappeared, popped there head up a few days ago just to see how things were going, this looks like it's going the same way.
Just my thoughts on it.

but then what is a biker?
was just wondering about a possible answer to this the other day
specially as some folk ride bikes but ain't bikers by any stretch of the imagination ( a former boss of mine for eg )
so I came up with this definition:-
a bike rider is considered a biker if he follows the unwritten rules of bikers
because the rules are unwritten he (or she) would only know them if they mixed with other bikers. Knowing the rules is not the same as following the rules
eg
one rule is that you should always try and stop when you see another rider in trouble; broken down, minor collision etc etc
I say 'unwritten rule' because they are, of course, not binding in any way, more like a code if you will.......
my definition....anyone got any other views?
BTW as far as MCs are concerned
have seen bad side and good
mainly feel iffy about the ones who bully MCCs
how do they enforce the rules they set down?
is often my question
I mean
they don't make smaller clubs ask permission before wearing colours just by being nice do they?
and if any MC members are offended by that they should look at what they do and consider my question again......

I belong a local bike club which uses back patches, and they can be a problem
I went to a biker bash in Lincolnshire, and our club was intimerdated,by a
well known large Back Patch club, they advised us,it would be in our interests
to attend their party's,that is after they lock you in! why do we need this
crap,we ride bikes,party,enjoy ourselves,so if patches cause objections,its
sad,why do we have to be politically correct,as from then, I'm billy no name.,

I don't like the idea of certain patch clubs licencing other clubs. What the feck has it got to do with them? However if peeps WANT to join a backpatch club, good luck to them, I hope they find what they are looking for. I have a great friend who had a shotgun pushed past her head and fired, taking the top of her mates head off (he survived, but only 'cos the shooter was crap). It then turned out the prospect had got the the wrong bloke and the wrong house! No, I don't like 'em, but I would defend them in the same way I would fight for any other bikers or their lifestyle. United we stand, divided we fall, simple as that.

i was a back patch wearer for a number of years.
the other mc clubs we met were great, yes there was the odd asshole. but those you can find anywhere anyway. it was the odd mcc club we would have probs with. but worse than them, much much worse in fact, were, due to our location on the marches, were the bloody "young farmers" clubs. you know the type, strong in the arm an thick in the head.
even though we comment on certain things not influencing us. the very fact that we remember it means that it has to a certain degree influenced us.
only once did i ever see something which i considered really wrong.
2 prospects beating the crap out of a guy, who admittedly was asking for it. but this was done 6 feet away from a mother with her 3 little kids. who was just leaving a shop. to go to her car.
the kids starting crying. one of the prospects just went up to the little girl and screamed in her face. not words just a scream.
thats not being hard thats being an asshole.

What would happen if backpatch/mc's disapeared ?!?!
I really don't think the biking scene would be as apealing to a lot of folk and there could be a lot more trouble at rallies.
Just a thought
