Hi, I am just wondering what peoples opinions are on the use of a logbook from one scrapped vehicle on another, ie a reliant logbook being used to build a trike

anyone with any comments please mail me as dont want to cause any problems for this forum if this topic is out of line, will delete it etc if there is any problems

thanks

Tony

LOL, thats pretty funny,

ok this is the problem, can I just use a logbook from a reliant to build a trike from, then change the cc for the different engine, and later on just change the make and model, as I remember that you used to be able to do this, my mates trike was called "shy tot", and was on the logbook, and my one was also named on the logbook as a "patch" and model was a "2E4", renaming would lose the reliant etc part, but dont know the implications of this, I think I will just go for the MSVA etc, but fancied having the trike on the old reg that I have, and then not paying road tax for it either :)

im not quite sure how it works for car based trikes, might be worth checking a few sites out about it

sorry about the little bout of paranoia there tony,
legally its a big no no but morally and in practice you can usually get away with it because on the old log books or V5s the Reliant is a tricycle, i have heard rumours (uncorroborated of cource officer sorry tony) :D that some people have just carried on using the original V5 and altered or built away to their hearts desire, the main problem now would be the fact that major alterations to the design or build, would require you legally to have the trike sva tested,it would therefore come down to how friendly your mot tester was,or how observant mr policeman was in a roadside check,
i dont know if you would have to submit the vehicle for test before you got tax free status, but if you did you would be stuffed.
To be honest mate is it really that important that you get free tax or keep the number, q plates on trikes are now pretty much accepted as the norm and as such wont affect the value.
Good luck in whatever you decide

Hi thanks for the comments, have now decided that as I have put so much effort and hard work into the trike, and its built properly, there will be no problems with the SVA malarky, so gonna do it all properly, not really too sure why I was considering doing otherwise to be honest, but was just the temptation of already having the logbook done and just simply using that

"the devil made me do it officer" honest LOL

"stone cold" the bike trike will be alive and ripping up the devon country lanes very soon :)

It is cheap and easy enough to go for SVA, and production of that little certificate will add considerable resale value.

One of our club members was stopped by the Plod who informed him that his registration number related to a Reliant Robin Estate Tricycle, and that being a full bodied vehicle was clearly not the vehicle they were looking at. He had to go straight home with no supper.

The problem is if you have a smash, you are likely to have no insurance followiing inspection.

And, under the forthcoming MOT computerised system the MOT station will view the registered details of your vehicle when they tap the number in and may refuse to test it if it doesn't relate to what they are looking at.

Hi thanks for the advise, have got some forms here to sort out and then will be getting the registration etc all sorted, only pig is that nearest station for me is 150 miles round trip, thats quite an initial run for it LOL, think I will have a mate with a van follow me with me toolbox onboard :)

no worries Pat will get some pics to you as soon as its fully finished, deffo not selling this one too quickly so will have it for a while, hopefully!!, until the next project rears its ugly head

just waiting to sort the wideglide front end and some lovely handlebars that I discovered this week, but who would have thought that a pair of handle bars could cost over £140, and now will have to get all new levers etc as they are 1" :(

so long as my missus doesnt have the baby too soon, it will be finished even quicker LOL
