a bit of a weird one here...

When I had the crash in April, I bust my bike's clocks. When it came to the rebuild, I took the speedo drive and clock face out of the GT750 clocks and put it in the GT550 case (from the one that Shudy's now got) as I wanted to keep the same mileage.

I would have thought that as its the same drive, there shouldn't be any differences - so how come the speedo is now out by about 10mph + (as in 10 more than I'm actually doing)?

Confused...

Unfotunately, I still cannot afford to buy a custom speedo and tacho yet so I'm making do with what I've got, unless something comes up really cheap on ebay.

are you saying you now have gt750 speedo on a gt550?

if the gt550 front wheel is smaller than the 750's then your speedo will read fast.
forget that i've just checked, both 550 and 750 have 19" wheels.

i'll have a rethink

And I thought I was confused... GT550 clock housing with GT750 Speedo drive and face, on GT750 bike

ok went out to the workshop in my undies just toget this info, so you owe me if you say they no use LOL

anyway I got 2 speedos, they the R&R sport ones, both about 2.5" dia, both 0-160mph, both marked with 60mph=2240rpm on the face

the first one is black case, with light grey face, dark grey numbers, showing 5623 miles. ok condition. no damage to glass or face etc

the other is chrome case black face with white numbers and 0000 miles, cant see all of it as its on a chop in the workshop but it appears to be mint, just fitted and thats it

let me know if they any good to you, we can talk beer tokens later, or maybe you got anymore custom bits laying around, maybe swapsies :)

ok looked by through some job cards and found this prob a couple of times.
cure was the same in both cases.
the hole in the speedo were the cable screws/clamps on a got something in it.
when the cable is fixed on it puts more pressure on the workings which causes the air gap to be less than standard in the speedo head causing the speedo to read fast.
same thing at the wheel end would also cause it
phewww :)

I wish we'd had this conversation earlier, mate, we could have done a deal.

All I've got left to swap now is a few odds and ends, brake hubs, drive shafts and a set of t-bars (the ones where you need to drill through the yokes)...

oh yeah, and a set of slash-cuts which came with Mrs R's bike. Four into four, they look pretty good, just need a bit of weld to hold them together - that's why they aren't on the bike.

The black case/grey dial looks different enough, as Mrs R's got the Chrome on on hers, I see a theme here - along the colour black... black bars, black tank, seat. Interesting.

Dracken, if the speedo glass is broken, due to some muppett hitting it with a rubber mallett - would that have the same effect? :o

it could mitch yes.
imagine a ball spinning in a cup, but the ball never touches the cup. its the movement of air cased by the spinning ball that causes the cup to turn.
if the space between the ball and the cup gets less, than the cup turns more and sooner than it normally would.

Leave the glass off and drill a hole in the bottom to let the water out.

Since evrybody does there own thing here, it's hard to get a handle on it. When you want a serious answer you get p*ss takes and vice-versa. Enjoy! ;)
