Last night some thieves broke into our garage through the side door, they couldn't get in though the big doors because because they are locked with three mortice locks. Their target, my sons new 125 scooter 06reg. having discovered that it was too big to get out of the side door, and that the steel doors would not open without keys, they smashed the ignition lock and cut the wires to disable the alarm, and then picked up the scooter and threw it across the garage to land on top of my Kwak GT750. so when I discovered it the GT was lying silencer down with what was left of the scooter on top of it, it looks as if every panel and the windscreen has been smashed....Damage to the GT...can't see any, tried it out on the bypass, still the same old heap, same old scratches, same clatters and bangs, built like a tank. :) John

Bloody shame - you took all the right precautions with security, etc and the lad will still end up losing out on an insurance premium hike
So the 'beautiful' GT survived then, huh? Well you can't beat a solid, reliable runner I guess. It's like my blokey - built for comfort, not for speed and what it loses in the beauty stakes it more than makes up for in, ahem, other areas . . . . . ;)

Sorry to hear about this John.
I bet the thieves are aquaintances of your son. Probably someone that he knows of that he may hang around with in a group, and not known for very long, and knows about the new bike and where you live. It doesn't sound like an opportunist break in to me.
Something similar happened to me years ago. A car I had got broken into, and the casstte radio and CB got nicked. (Yeah, Yeah, I know CB! I bet if you ask most of the bikers on here, I bet they had one back in AM days!) Anyway this chap I knew vaguely from the CB club, lived around the corner from me got a visit from some of the breaker buddies, and was asked sort of politely to return the items. He strenuously denied taking them, but a few days later the items mysteriously appeared on my doorstep!

my advice leave the big door open just a little and sleep in the garage with a big knife i garentee you will catch the feckers, then you can take them up the woods for a spot of hole digging that scares the ****e otta anyone belive me i know.

Don't roll your eyes at me, young man! Pete absolutely needs no bigging up at all, I can assure you. I guess you either know us or you don't, eh?
I think Friar Tuck is right, some fake mate of your lad's most likely, or someone who's cast covetous eyes on it as it's been wheeled in and out.

go out an get your self a baby monotor. you cab even get movment video kits from about £40.
pop it in the garage and then you'll here the buggers comming back and they WILL be back. when you catch them you have a number of choices, but just knowing who they are in normaly enough, also them having the reansurance if any thing happens again, them or not, you'll be looking them up.
i do like the night time digging. that'd get me packing darkies.

Ok well first of all, my son is 39 and works nights 17 miles away and doesn't drink so it's not his mates...However my big double doors open out on the biggest car park in the area, every time one of us goes out anyone can see into the garage, with up to three bikes parked there. As to it being kids, they knew how to disable the alarm with the help of a big hammer, cut out the ignition switch, and then when they still couldnt start it they picked it up and threw it over the GT and against the garage wall so they had to be pretty strong. They broke every single panel on the scooter and the windscreen and the speedo glass. so Yes I think they did that in the hopes that I would claim for the new scooter and the GT. Then they could come back in six months time and get new stuff! Bad luck for both of us there, they aren't covered for damage in the garage.
On the plus side I just took the GT out for a test ride. 112 miles round the Brecon Beacons national park. cost about £13 petrol, passed about thirty riders going HarleyHarleyHarleyHarleyHarleybrrrumHarleyHarleyHa rleyHarley :D John

i got that idea from a mate of mine who caught a young lad throwing stones at his mum's house windows, he grbbed him bundled him into the boot of his jag took him up the woods made him dig a sizeable hole then told him next time he wouldn't be coming back.
down side he got pulled and warned by the coppers
upside the lad was as nice as pie and said sorry to his mum for throwing the stones
