i have been commissioned to build a theme trike for taxidave based loosly on the old horse drawn hansom cabs.to fit in with dave job as a black cab driver

this is just a first not to scale draft of it.
extras will include the use of a chemist who will reproduce the smell of vomit and very old used condoms, which will be supplied in a handy atomiser spray.
the floorboards for the rider will extend from the cab to the foot controls and will be filled in with a dark oak wood floor

as i stated this is only a quick first draft. and has not happened yet.

when dave came up to borth to make the final payment and to take away his trike he met with what can only be described as the most freakish accident i've ever heard of.
a large headmans axe with a high carbon blade and hand turned hickory shaft. fell on his neck and his head sort of fell off.
so it was the least i could do but to keep the trike for myself.

oh fck hang on, that hasn't happened yet either

ok its to be the jw motorcycles rolling advert for 2005. but heh a guy can dream can't he :D :D :D

Hi Dracken & TD...

This made me think of Big Daddy Roth so I did a Google search for 'Big Daddy Roth Trike' and came up with this: http://www.aeclassic.com/rothtrikes/mailbox.html
This could be the one Danny referred to - I remember a Stars 'n' Stripes one too.

BTW on ratfink.org there's more info on Roth's trikes and also a bit about Indian Larry.

Regards
Mick

oh ye of little faith!!!

in fact what you would think of as the differcult bit is the easiest, i,e. the cab.

mdf is a wonderfull material as it is a perfectly flat almost machined finish.and it does machine well.
picture just one side of the cab as in the pic.
that shape would be cut in mdf sheet, with braces fixed to it to keep it flat, a router will then put a curved groove about 3" in from the edge all the way around, plus around the window..
the mdf is then given a good going over with mould release wax and possibly latex release agent.
the glass is then laid over that,
remembering that everything by now is reversed.
i'm hoping i could do the cab in one piece, but maybe not.
the mdf will then be burnt or used for other things as i don't want more than one of this cab around.
the main spine will be flat plate profile cut to produce the curve. 60mm tube will also be bent to the same curve. then cut along the centre line, so that when welded to the plate. will end up as an oval.
cab strengthners will be grp and ali which you won't see .
must not forget the fishing rod blank that will be leather bound with a long leather tip to make up the whip. (down fayji, down i said) to fit in a holder on the cab.
colour will be black and gold, the gold coming from gold leaf (not the real stuff) and brass fittings/lamps.
don't think i'll go as far as to fit a bucket and spade on the back though :D

cost, don't want to think about it as yet. everything will be done by us except the profile cutting of the main spine.
we will also be making the springer type front end .
hoping that we can maching the rear wheels to take a bearing so that we can fit a weighted wheel cover that won't rotate with the wheels, well not much anyway, but will always end up in the same position when stationary.

would welcome feedback from triker666 on the cab
