Yep cr@p day
the vet put our mutt down today :(
she was a grumpy old fart towards the end
she was almost 18 years old
thought it wouldn`t bother me, but fuck it has
the saying that `their part of the family` was crap in my eyes but now i know what they mean
but it was the kindest thing for her as she couldn`t stand up hardley, and i had to carry her up the garden every day, and put her back on her feet every 5 mins
yesterday she didn`t move or lift her head up, even to snap at me as she always did, and you could see in her eyes she had given up, and was tired
and had enuff
RIP Jess

i know how ya feel mate!!! just been through it fer the umpteenth time! at least she,s pain free now!!! and yer did the right thing!!!! regards toad!
Feel for ya mate, I really do.
My dog Scrumpy was rushed into the emergency hospital last night with a nose bleed. Seems simple enough, but it has been caused by a frigging grass seed up his snotter, and is causing the poor ol' boy untold pain and discomfort.
He is on loads of pills for this and that, but with a bit of luck he will be fine.
Aint said owt all day coz dint think anyone would be interested, but knowing you have lost your dear old mate Jess, has made me realise how lucky I am to have a dog with only a bleeding nasal cavity, even tho I am told a nose bleed can be very dangerous for a dog.
They do become like one of the family eh mate.
I was broken when I lost my last dog Bess. She was perfect.
So sorry to hear about your loss mate. Hits hard I know. But as you said, it was best for Jess, and I am sure she has thanked you for that mate.
RIP Jess............

Yeah I've had to have a few put down, It never gets any easier, I buried our last dog in my daughters garden, was ok until I was about 3-4ft down then I just cried my eyes out, was the same with my Mum, ok until she went behind the curtain in the crematorium. So called tough men huh!John

Yep! I'm afraid to say the best member of your family is your pet! They give you unrequisite love! Even the grumpy ones, and I've had a few! It's a shame they are the shortest lived friends!
So sorry to hear of your loss, mate. And don't worry we all ball our eyes out! I certainly did! But there is fun in looking for a new friend, but you never forget the old one!

You did the right thing and that's a great comfort knowing at least we can do that for our animal friends unlike our human ones. We did the same thing twice earlier this year with our 17 year old cats and it was gutting :( Still haven't got over it, I like to go and sit by their graves and talk to them now and then.
18 is a fantastic age for a dog - let her go knowing she was loved.

Lost Brian
Phils cat on 21st September 1995.
Still think & talk about him-he was so special, and it still brings a tear to my eye to think about how he died after only 7 short years.
I have had 3 other cats put down since then, but they had a long happy life, and it didn;t seem so bad
Pets. I prefer them to children :D

As Toad says we've just been through this.. just a month ago now and reading your post has made me blub a little, for your loss. Like our Duglis, Jess told you enough, you did the right thing. This will get easier for you to deal with, never forgotten, missed and loved, but you will be o.k, just knowing you did the right thing, the kindest thing. xxx

Meet Jack or Dinlow, our cheerful, smiley, mad as bag of snakes goldie. Taken yesterday whilst begging to go for walk. It worked.. how could I refuse. He's the reason I am coping. cheers bud.

I am so glad we all love our animals on here... you don't feel so at odds or silly when you are grieving. whatever differences folk have had on other threads are forgotten when someone's got an upset.

sorry about Jess hinny .I know exactly how you feel . I,m dreading it when I lose Rosie our little dog .
When I had to get Merlin ( my 15 year old cat ) put to sleep it was awfull .I,d had him since before Katy was born so she was really attached to him , he used to ride along on the botton of her pram ! Anyway Katy went to the vets with me and Merlin on that fateful day .Upshot was I got him cremated , Katy now has a little casket box with his ashes in her bedroom , Merlin hasnt left us the memories are always gona be there and we can take him with us wherever we go if we move etc .

Feel for ya Phil. We're lucky enough to have six dogs and our old boy Kickstart is sixteen, and I know that day is approaching. The younger dogs push past him and knock him over and I have to carry him up the stairs on a night but his eyes are still bright and I dread the day when they aren't.
RIP Jess

We've done that! We have three nice rosewood boxes that sit in the sunlight in the study. People visiting, just think they are ordinary boxes, but to us we know who they are and are special to us!
