it hasn't got the number on the reminder. I had the same trouble.
Use your logbook instead - much easier!
I contacted DVLA about this and lo and behold, they haven't answered!!! :(

You can do it online without the reminder in the yellow box but you need a reference number off your registration document.
The SORN DVLA site is a sod to navigate but I've managed a couple of times so far.

Taxed a bike online for the 1st time last month. Was a bit paranoid after MOTing my bike which had been off the road well over a year on a Saturday afternoon with a copper in the garage. If he'd have thought about it, he'd have realised there was no way I was getting taxed so went home and did it online. Guess they could have done me for not displaying but lease I was taxed.
Had the same prob with the reminder tho - no number. What a shocker! New DVLA system with a glitch

Hi Minxy, you can legally ride your bike to and from the mot without it being taxed, (how long you leave it afterwards depends on how lucky you feel :D )

Guess they could have done me for not displaying but at least I was taxed.
I think you may be able to argue that one now. When I retaxed my bike at the post office they didn't want my documents because it is all listed on computer, and the police have the same details. So they know if you have registration, tax, MOT, and insurance. If they pull you it has to be for a driving offence or they will be wasting the courts time. also unlike a car, your tax disk will be displayed out in the open, You know 'Watch out there's a thief about' dont leave it on show, 'Crime together we can crack it' all these police adverts say don't display it! John
