As much as I hate the gloom of winter I'm not sure us natives would be so creative if we had all year round good weather. It's why we're a nation of shed owners and tinkerers and lets face it, one of the best feelings is that early spring day when you notice the sun is warming your back for the first time for weeks. :D

At least winter gives us a break from spiders & if me and Mitch were at the naturist club all year round we would have skin that resembled old leather, not to mention the fact that open fires are very cosy and you don't enjoy steamed pudding and steak and kidney pie quite so much as when it's cold out. There is no lawn mowing or weeding and no one notices the spare tyres under winter clothing.
On the downside the house is permanently filled with wet cats and their filthy, muddy pawprints on everything, we don't feel much like riding our bikes in the ice and snow and by February the novelty has worn off and there is no more swimming in the sea which is a pisser.
Mind you we have toyed with the idea of purchasing wet suits and going swimming in winter - you first Mitch :)
