Well I hate to go against the general feeling but Mc Donalds actually use really good ingredients, I know my company installed loads of kit in their UK factory, the beef is like steak cut and the chicken is all breast meat now.
But all that aside I still dont eat there as I dont like it, Urger King much better.
There's loads of Urban myths about food companys most of them are just that myths.
yeah I know - I was joking :)
*titter*
Mmmm Macdonalds, what more could a person want, nutritious healthy, and "I'm loving it"

Simon, I would hate to disabuse you on this one, but I would suggest reading 'McLibel' by John Vidal (Guardian's Environment Editor) that went into the heart of the McLibel trial a few years ago. It uncovered quite a load of stuff that would make you think twice about eating there. Also, check out McSpotlight (http://www.mcspotlight.org)
For example, when the river Uck was flooded a couple of years ago, the Uckfield re... (I can't bring myself to call it a restauarant) was up to six inches deep in raw sewage - and yet they still kept on cooking the burgers!! (happened at coventry too!)

Hey I never said the franchised outlets where good, just the ingredients that they're provided with. I know its a horrible thing to say but if Im gonna eat a burger at one of the main three I wont touch it if its full of our ethnic cousins as its usually a franchise operation where all they give a toss about is profit( ie cooking food when theyre walking round in sewage). The other week I had my kids in the car and we stopped off at a well known chicken outlet they where starving and it was the only option ( My kids not the chickens) cost a bloody fortune when I asked for bar -be - q sauce they wanted 20p per portion when I'd justed parted with the best part of £20, didnt bother with the food and got my cash back. Theiving bar stewards.

be fair now folks, some SOME of the people working in mucdonalds deserve medals, i know i couldnt hack it there.
We had a manager who started at a poutry farm i was working at and the third time he went (clap-clap-clap-clap) "COME-ON COME-ON" he went head first into the 'lung bin'.
but i am suprised that the lady found a head in her meal to be honest, usually the gutting staff make little puppets out of the heads.

Got to agree with you on this one, My youngest daughter when aged 17 wanted to get her first road legal bike as she called it, she had a Yam T80 to play about on since she was 12, anyway to get the money together as quick as poss Mc Ds was the place to do it, youngsters can bring home well over £200 a week and they deserve every penny of it with the sh*t they have to indure of Joe pulic, Anyway my daughter saved up almost 3K within 6 months to get her bike, what she did not know was that me and her mum had been putting the money away over a couple of years to get her a bike but we let her carry on working and saving with out saying anything to her,
When the big day came for her to buy her bike we went with her to the shop and she was quickly told that they could not sell her a bike and would she please leave the shop.....Very long pause as she was thinking how to take the guys head off....when the guy then added "and please take your bike with you thats taking up space outside.....her face was a picture and it was worth every penny we spent. :D
She is now 21 and on her way to becoming a dental nurse even though she has taken a year out to look after her own daughter, her final exam is next year.
Mindless far from it, Street wise " she fires on all six " and can put a lot so called grown up's to shame. ;)

I worked in the catering industry for a few years after leaving school and before doing something useful with my life, and this included a spell at McDonalds.
Yes, the work is hard and the pay is dire, but they do meet the minimum standards of employment legislation, which is much of an improvement on many other hotels and restaurants. You actually got the breaks that you were entitled to, you knew what you had to do to meet your (meagre) pay rises, and in general you knew where you stood with the firm. It is unskilled work, so will therefore attract the minimum wage to start, like almost all work in catering. For the average teenager, it ain't a career move, but it's regular reliable money. (More regular and more reliable than agency work, better regulated than other aspects of catering, and probably safer in H&S terms than a factory production line or labouring.)
Not all McD's are franchises - some (it used to be 'most' but I'm not sure of the figures nowadays) are owned by the parent UK company. The supplies for the UK are sourced from the UK or EU, with more stringent standards than the suppliers for the US. It is usually the franchises that are in the press falling short of the performance, environmental health and H&S expectations. The franchise fees for McD's are so high (and they can't shop about for suppliers) that the financial aspect *is* more important, which is frequently their downfall. IIRC, most if not all BKs and KFCs are franchises too.
I'm not standing up for the company in the slightest - I'm just suggesting that in comarison to other catering establishments, it ain't actually the worst. Having done my food hygiene certs there are far more places that I would *not* eat at.
Yes, the change in fayre recently is certainly in cynical response to to the health criticisms, and to prevent more stores from closing. Most of their dubious advertising practices have stopped as well, probably also to avoid further criticism. but hey, it's a business, not a public service. they're going to do everything they can to raise their profile and part you from your cash.
But, all in all, all of these are only 'restaurants' in the terms that they serve food - it is produced on a nearly automated production line, it's not terribly good for you, but let's face it, you know what you're getting (full ingredients list on the website - more E numbers than you can shake several sticks at). Buy it, or not.
If you do, there's no reason for complaint, but if not, fair enough.
