A while ago you may recall, I had my bike trashed courtesy one of those heroes of the road, the white van man.

Recently on the Workshop forum, I posted this missive
...(currently waiting painfully for the other party's insurance to get their act together and inspect the bike),... Once the assessor's been, I can then get on sorting out the mudguard mounting points, then get the whole lot painted.

Hmmm. proved a bit premature on that one, it would have been OK if me insurer (two words, begins with C & N) hadn't dumped their entire uninsured loss caseload (about 450 cases) onto a poor unsuspecting legal firm who are now only just getting round to sending out the letter of claim to the other party (If I hadn't nagged them into it first!). Six weeks later and they hadn't sent anything to anyone - they only wrote to me to say they were acting on my behalf AFTER I got their number from the insurers to ask them why they hadn't done jack **** so far.

Wasn't there something in the mag about that same insurer taking on the entire AA's bike insurance market and creating loads of jobs? More like ditch one hot potato and grab a more lucrative Jersey Royal if you ask me...

Well... when I first took the policy with them, I wasn't that heavily involved with MAG. I guess their reputation went before them, back in the old days Carole Nash were quite respected for bike insurance. Having had a few years off (as I did from '96 until 2000) I thought that would still be the same.

I don't think I'll be insured with them when my policy's up in October - especially how they've also got rid of the decent breakdown cover they had with the RAC (who I found really helpful and even knew how to sort out bike's electrical problems) and swapped it for some muppets who send out the nearest available recovery company (of which you take pot luck, sometimes they're helpful, the other time they're just ignorant toerags who won't even help you get the bike onto the back of the truck).

I'll definitely see what MAG have to offer next time round, but maybe as the bike will be customised when I renew it, who knows?
