just a little note to you all, your probably all aware that you can save money by changing to a meter, but I for one wasnt aware how much
my water bill was paid monthly, previuos monthly bill was normal water rates etc and on direct debit is £48 per month
I have changed to a meter as have many of my neighbors now and its less than that per quarter!!
was very hard work to get the meter fitted here, reckon the water board know how much they are going to lose and dont want to fit them, but I got it in the end and well worth the wait :)

water we sell water to the english 5 million pounds a year
for an other million we will stop pissin in it :p
We're actually in an area which is changing over to water meters in the next three months (as I found when I rang the water board after moving), and I'm pleased about that because my Mum, like Tony, has found out how much she saves once she got a meter fitted.

I can second that Tony. Been fitting/exchanging meters for 5 months now. Work is ballistic up here in bedfordshire.
Tip: If you have a dedicated single supply to your house and you have a new plastic boundery box, (Atplas) or a wall mounted box, (Intex) insist on an external meter. Easier and quicker to exchange with little (10mins) or no inconvenience to yourself. BUT, dont flush the bog as soon as you come in...run the downstairs cold tap for a couple of mins first, pref an outside tap. (To flush out any sediment and not cause any air locks.)
That'll be £45 please sir, £40 for cash.

You're telling me! Our water bill monthly is now £12.00. Mind you we've never been ones to use hoses, wash the car etc and we always take showers and don't have a diswasher. Can't believe how low our bill is now though
It's the only one that is

I find that water and sewerage is usually split 50-50 so if you were on main drainage it would cost you about £220.00 per year...anyone agree with that? John

It must call sod all for southeners every summer. You can't charge at a stand pipe in the street. :D

I'm not sure mine would drop.... i have a shower every day, sometimes more, i run the washing machine several times a week, and then the obvious toilet flushing etc.
Washing up water must be less than most cos i leave it til I've run out of plates and then save water by doing it all at once :D
Current water rate is £17 a month for 10 months of the year.

Since we only moved to the bungalow and gone on a water meter recently, we have no idea as to the cost yet

I had 1 years ago and was very careful with water at first, but to get a real idea if I would be saving I started using water in the same way as usual...............my bill was almost 3 times what I used to pay in water rates!
Mind you, with 3 kids etc and having a huge pool in the garden I did use alot!!!!

jeez kylie, wouldnt mind your water rates
in my house theres me, the missus and 2 year old girl, bowl of washing up every night, washing machine full load 3 times a week, 2 showers every night, and still cheaper
thing is that here in north devon we have miles of coastal line, this is what we are paying for, the upkeep and maintenance of that, wouldnt mind but I never even been to the beach or in the sea!!
previuosly the water supply and sewerage was split 50/50 I rang them and asked if I could only pay half if I pissed in the garden and crapped in the bin, using the other water for watering the garden etc etc, no prizes for guessing the answer

I live in a teeny house which is why the rates are so low, and also Yorkshire Water are very good.
It's the only bill that is low tho, and thats why I would be sceptical about going on a meter... i doubt i would save money!
South West Water always were bloomin hopeless and very expensive, i remember my parents moaning.
Dad's not on mains sewers so only pays for the water supply not sewers. Sceptic tank pongs a bit on occasions, and you're restricted as to what cleaning products you use and what you can flush down the toilet, but you get used to it.

Mine is £35 per month on rates. I've been thinking about getting a water meter for ages. Griff, do you work as far up North as Wigan? ;)
