I am having the engine out o' the trike this week, to sort this oil seeping into the water thing out once an' for all
I bin watching the Yanks on telly, (Orange County Chopper's) They always seem to have nice chrome looking engines! I want to have this o' mine chrommed, I mean I might as well seeing as I am going to be taking the thing out! Will, I have to treat the engine the same, as when sending stuff of to be powder coated? ie, block/tape up any bolt holes, etc?

Wotcha.

One word "don't"

It's a pig to get chrome to stick to aluminium alloy.

It's an absolute bugger to keep clean.

A shiny surface does not radiate heat as well as a dark surface - expect the thing to overheat.

There again, if that's what you like . . . . do it :D

Oil in the water - sounds like my GL1100. Turned out to be corrosion eating away the cylinder head so the head gasket wouldn't seal any longer.

Yeah Ratwing I think you could be right, I am a little stuck with this Trike of mine! She is using oil, not vast amounts but I feel a little too much! She is showing oil in the water BUT no water in the oil? She smokes a little more on one side than the other (Left hand side as sitting on Bike) this is the side that she blew her head gasket on last year. She runs intermitantly cold on number two pot. an after a while she only runs on all four; then for some reason gose back to running on three; she also smells rich (Not burning fuel) Sometimes the fuel consumption is down to about 15 to 19 miles per gallon! When firing on all four she dose about 37 to 40 miles to the gallon
BIN TOLD DIFF THINGS THAT COULD BE!

I have been told it is the valve seals?
Is the valve seals on a GL1000 difficult to do? Will I have to drop the engine out ofthe frame, or can they be replaced in situe and will I have to disturb the head gasket? Because she blew the left hand head last year, could it be that the gasket has not formed a good seal? Several people have said what, I thought it could be the head is warpped; however
I was told by a Honda guy up here in Brum, that the GL head shouldn't be skimmed in fact he said all Jap engins were a bit too light, not enogh metal to allow them to be skimmed not like old cast car engines???????.

It was a Prison up in Cumbria that tried to fix her for me! No bike garage here in my area would touch her, due to being a trike. Local Honda Dealer said far too old for them to be bothered with? The others said it was because she is a trike, and would take up too much space! So the Disabled Motorcyclist Association, aranged for me to take her up to HMP Haverrig near Millom. They charged only for the parts used. (This was about twelve months ago) I went tobrand X in Cradly Heath, the guy (Kev) had some blocks at £50 a throw, he suggested I do the head again, if it don't work
I know a guy who has a spare head block that has come off a working engine; he said I can have that. (Anyone in the Brum area wanna give us a lift doing it?)

I'll let you know how I get on!
