Saw an Orthopeadic Surgeon on thursday to have my leg/mobility checked. This is the final examination before we go to court, so I'm hoping to get this finished soon. Most of the old hands here know that it has been over three years since I took the wing out of a BMW with me leg. The verdict is extensive nerve damage to the inner thigh above and below the knee. Swelling from the upper thigh to the ankle and nerve damage and sensitivity above and below the knee. Not only does this prevent me from riding a bike, but walking, standing and sitting are all awkward. They originally offered me £7,500 for wrecking my life. I didn't think it was enough, As a lifetime biker, I have spent enough time from the scene, even being accused of not being a biker on this site ( I'm glad you guys stood up for me). Nevertheless it was hurtful at a time when I was at my lowest. I've just had more bad news, ain't it always the way. Babs, her daughter Cherie and grandchildren are coming back from Thailand on Tuesday. This would be normally a great day for me, but the grandaughter, who is only three is being medivacced out. They are not sure if it is Cerebral Palsy with a tumour or some muscular disease with an attendant tumour. I will be picking them up at Heathrow at 5.30 on Tuesday and taking them into London and Guy's Hospital. I can only hope that things will work out ok, she is a beautiful little thing and full of life.

With regard to your claim, Ewok, i know how you feel mate. Mine has been on the go for 2 1/2 years now and I have had couple of visits to the consultant, several x-rays and examinations and not even a sniff of light at the end of the tunnel, never mind an offer. Why the hell do they take so long sorting these things out? Are the insurers hoping you might be miraculously cured or you just give up on the claim altogether, thus saving them an absolute fortune? I know they have to give you some healing time, but some things are permanent and irreversible, yet still they stall. It drives me to despair sometimes mate. I nearly lost my life in my accident and subsequently nearly lost my house due to some pillock at the benefits agency in Wigan not believing I had a busted spine and refusing me invalidity benefit! I had to attend 3 medicals to prove it! I have had to fight for everything I am legally entitled to and it took far too long to get sorted out due to incompetence and mindless red tape at every turn. It's infuriating to the point where i have considered throwing in the towel, but I can't do that to my family. They have been supporting me every step of the way this last couple of years and certainly give me the strength to carry on to the bitter end.

This rather neatly brings me to your current family crisis. Be as strong for them as they have been for you, Face this crisis with Unity and Dignity and please accept my best wishes to the little one.

Bloody 'ell mate! You've realy had the crap thrown at you! Haven't you?

Do you have one of those No Win, No Fee Solicitors cards that come with most insurances nowadays? Maybe getting something like one of them involved might hurry things along a bit?

Damn Sorry to hear about the granddaughter, as well. Once over here and in a decent hospital (despite what peeps hear, they are still the best in the world I think) and a proper diagnosis can be made, trhings might not be as bad as first thought, eh?

As for the swelling as nerve endings,if there is anything that the Ewokandtuck Institute can provide through their "Fallen Doves Repatriation Scheme" you only have to give the nod! ;)

(PS. If the petty cash isn't put back soon, the other leg maybe coming out in sympathy!) :p

sorry to hear the bad news mate

it took 8 years to get my claim settle accident march 96 settled march 04
each year i kept thinking its gotta end soon but it dragged on ... but i am glad it did because it did allow a full picture of my injuries to show up..
the best advice i can offer is ignore it, sign what you need to sign, and let the solicitorss get on with it.......trust me it is a lot less stressfull that way

i hope the little one's health is sorted out.
kids are strong, it is us older one's who find it hard to deal with.

all the best

Thanks for that chaps, just what I needed, always better when a trouble is shared. As for the claim, we had to set a court date by the 24th of june this years as the three years was up then. We have set a date and hopefully there will be an offer before then. As for Grav's remarks about why you are jerked about by the insurance companies, his own experience is the answer.

They do sincerely hope you will:-
A. Get better and minimise the claim as far as possible.
B. You will get desperate for cash (think of your mortgage, bills etc) and you give up and accept there first offer.
C. You will get fed up with waiting/wrangling and accept a smaller offer.
D. You will die and save them a fortune.

I hope all goes well with your claim Grav, sounds like you deserve a big payout. At least I can still walk and get around pretty much normally, sorta makes the pain worth it.

Will only be dropping them off at the Hotel , Chop, as I have to get back to work that evening. Aren't firms great and compassionate places - NOT! Still have to try and wangle a half day off, so I can get some sleep. Will finish at midnight Monday, be at Heathrow for 5.30 Tuesday and run them into London. Spend a few hours with the family and home for some kip, and then to work. Should be fun.

What it needs is for a group of bikers who have been seriously injured to take a class action (I know it's an Americanism, do we have them here?) against manufacturers of vehicle fuel tanks that allow such spillages. Why don't MAG make it a lobbying point to make anti-spill tanks an MOT requirement on commercial vehicles. Rant over.
Lilly is at Guy's today to start a battery of tests. The latest verdict at the moment is that it is a massive viral infection, affecting the brain, spine and lungs (not that you'd know it, to see her run around) possibly caused by an injection the foreign office insisted she had. I am awaiting a text with the latest news. Probably won't know till later.
