My god...What a blow....
He was a part of my life for just about ever...
I remember a long time ago, when he was refused service in a cafe in brighton in the 60's, because of his long hair....
He became a hero to me that day....just for standing up to the establishment..
I've lost track of the various bands/singers/etc that I would never have heard of without his BBC radio programme.
One memorable night was when he played, prior to its "Official" release
John Lennons Imagine album in its entirety...Something that "just wasnt done" on the BBC
The BBC and the world of music will be a sadder place today.
RIP JOHN...................
The music industry will probably never see another like John Peel. A champion for upcoming bands who tried to give everyone who sent a demo a little bit of airtime. His knowledge and enthusiasm for music of all genres will be sorely missed.
RIP John Peel :(

Gutted. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
He had this uncanny knack of knowing what/who would be the next "big thing" in the music world. And for giving new bands/artists airtime.
He will be greatly missed :(

God speed, the other side is going to be having a lot more fun now.Let us not forget that his radio career was still current,i spent almost every Sat morning listening to home truths on R4 while making breakfast.
He will be a big miss, thoughts and prayers to his family.

If ever there was a person that deserved a knighthood for services to their industry it was John Peel. Many a band owe their career to him.
He will be sadly missed. Especially his Saturday Morning slot of R4! Had me in fits!
RIP John!

For all of us that wanted to exscape from the mainstream he was the guy to turn to, never devated and stayed true to his music.
RIP mate missing you already.......
Was standing in my shop a few months ago when one of my assistants came up and said could you explain to Mr Ravenscroft about some light fittings.
Turned out that Mr Ravenscroft was John Peel (likes to use his reel name) spent a pleasant 15 minutes chatting to him about this and that.
He came back in a couple of times with his family for different lights and was a lovely down to earth kind of bloke with absolutely no pretensions whatsover.
It was really weird talking to the guy whose musical choices had influenced me so much when I was a teenager listening to his late show on radio one.
I'd loved to have told him this but at the time it just didn't seem important and I figured he probably heard it all the time. Instead we just chatted about general stuff and how much he enjoyed living in Suffolk.
Lovely bloke, great loss to us all.
