St. John's Arms at Melchbourne . . . used to go there with me brother and his mates, many years ago now - landlord's a real star, great place for a 'do' and always good to see Stevie/Beer Monsters. It's on the calendar for next year, for sure. :)
Oh yeah, and those trophies are the biz!

Cheque in post, with extra for a donation. Is it ok to do that?
Creature
07-09-2006, 10:06 PM
sure is i hope you stated the extra was for donation ??? just to make things easier for me....
yeah they been unluncky 2 of the 3 events ive been booked there have been really poorly organised with little or no feedback to the landlord.
after the last 2 i sent them a letter with donations amounts raised in my can - and when i went back there for 3rd booking at start of this month - the thanx i got was unberlevable

I surely did - it went off today with a cover letter and all the necessaries, unless Pete was lying to me! That is such a cool place for a rally, you can't bother the neighbours because they're miles away :D

im a bit worried about the ride down :(
i wont be alowed on motorways ad im sure most of the journey is long stretches of motorways, im sure i'll find a way around it though, most probly a very long way lol
Creature
05-01-2007, 07:20 AM
No motorways involved for you
take the A5 from tamworth and follow signs for Catthrpe
at Cattorpe turn right - will bring you to roundabout - take A14 Kettering
at J10 take A6 signposted bedford
turn left - signpost knotting . melchbourne
follow signs
around 79 miles
feebz
06-01-2007, 02:31 AM
79miles one way?!
if it is i doubt i'll make it:(
dont think i will be confident enough to ride that far, especialy to an area i dont know
will try though because i want my 1st rally to be the best and it sounds good
Creature
06-01-2007, 11:18 AM
have a chat with clubs and others in your area you may find someone who will ride with you

so...any one in the tamworth/birmingham area?
Peirre
23-01-2007, 05:07 PM
at Cattorpe turn right - will bring you to roundabout - take A14 Kettering
IMO I doubt it would be a good idea for a novice rider to go down the A14, especially with all those big trucks on the A14
I doubt theres an easy way to pootle down.
maybe take the A5 crossing over the M42 towards Magna park lutterworth, then the A4303 over the M1 J20 towards market harbough then pick up the A6 towards Kettering and head south. whatever route Just watch out for those big bad lorry drivers

OK. It's a Crafter Mandolin, I exchanged an Aria fretless bass (to my eternal regret) for it in 2000 as I needed another mando to take on tour with Cactus Jack as my favored Harmony mando needed some repairs. Here's some general info on the model:
http://www.eaglemusicshop.com/images/MdInstruments/m70e_blue.jpg
Crafter
M70E - Blue Burst
This is an excellent ‘on-stage’ mandolin, designed and built by one of Koreas finest manufacturers. It is one of our most popular electro acoustic models available in a range of attractive colours.
The body shape resembles a ‘mini’ guitar. It is fitted with a two-band passive EQ system. You will find other look-alikes but …this is the original, and the best.
The Body Assembly… The bowl back and sides are High-Tec fiberglass. The body has a cutaway for easier access to the higher fret positions. The two-band PR-40 slide EQ control box is fitted to the topside of the body. The tiger maple soundboard is finished in a high gloss sunburst finish. (Several attractive colours are available) The hardwood mahogany bridge is designed to accept ball end strings (I've probably got a couple of packs layin' around - Stevie). White plastic binding protects the front of the instrument.
The Neck Assembly… The profile of the hardwood neck is very comfortable to play …not too narrow! it is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard, nickel silver frets and pearl dot markers. The headstock is the classic ‘Crafter’ style and is fitted with gold finish oval machine heads with pearl buttons.
Scale length: 351mm (13.812”)
Width at nut: 28.57mm (1.125”)
Weight Approx: 1.356kg (2.99lbs)
OK, so there it is. There is some slight damage to the front of the mando from where it was dropped a couple of days into the tour. It hasn't altered the sound at all an' is only cosmetic .... hey, at least you know I've used it. The photo that Creature first posted was taken at the Rattlesnake Saloon in Munich whilst on that first tour with Cactus Jack. I've used it as a back up whilst doin' solo gigs since. So when it comes to it, get your hands in your pockets an' buy loads of tickets. Ya never know, you may win somethin' good .... an' if ya don't, well, there's always my old mandolin http://yodaofbo.spaceport1.co.uk/ipb2/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif

Creature try other organisations that help disabled folk , as you know I work for a charity that does just that .If you get in before the beginning of March they may well have some spare cash in their coffers that MUST be spent before the new financial year .......worth a try.

Had a meeting with John at St Johns yesterday afternoon (of some 3 hours) and we managed to get loads sorted...
So here are the updates.....
1. The Marquee that I had booked has been sold, but another friend of Johns has a 60 x 30 Marquee that I have booked - A bit higher on price at £400.00 but at least that issue is now sorted.
2. The toilets on the trailor that I thought belonge dto teh site - in fact belong to a private indevidual who wants £200.00 for the hire of them - I have turne dthis down as I can get 4 portaloos for that price.
3. Electricity. John is in the process of having 2 phase elctricity installed - at the moment its only to the fuse boxes, but he asures me that the caravan wall sockets will be in place. We have agreed on £100.00 for the weekends electricity (I had earmarked £300.00 for big genny and diesel) so a bit of saving here..
4. The outside bar will be manned by Johns staff Friday 7pmish til midnite altho if still busy will stay open longer - Saturday from 1pm till midnightis again if busy will stay open longer.
5. The top field, there is also a small strip thats fenced off that I have also obtained. Altho originally a large bouque of flowers and large box of chocs - we have now agreed on £100.00 ( now got some were for bike/trike show)
6. Security fencing - John has supplied a number of a customer who should be able to help cheeply - hope to sort in next day or so.
7. There will be some bind for recycle stuff near the marquee - John is big on recycling so please use these if possible (everyone will get a rubbish bag when they sign in as well)
there are still a few things to sort out with teh site but nothing that is major and hope to finalise when im down there on a booking for the 3rd drink the pub dry in April.
John is laying on Newcastle Brown & Magners as well as his normal stock.
Also we have agreed to secure the pub from the rally. Peopel will still be able to go to the pub via the doorway in the outside bar, but will require there passes to get back to teh rally.
Also I have managed to get agreement on the sticky issue of pub regulars who may want to come and see teh bands at night - they will be charged £5.00 and will have to sign in and out at rally control - they also have to be offsite when bands finnish.
I have checked the paddock gate and it is in pretty good order and will be closed at nights as well as the security fencing blocking access at rally control.
There will be 250 T-shirts onsite - those sensible people who ordered and paid for them with there pre-book tickets will collect when they sign in. These are Fruit of teh loom Tshirts and sell for £10.00
also 250 rally badges - which again can be ordered with tickets and reserved.
these are obviously on a 1st served basis. ( I just hope I get rid of most of them). There will be some Rally T-shirts for sale on the N.A.B.D stall at the Pooh of Doom rally this weekend - for those who cant make the fund raiser or if tehy want to get them early.
Most tings are now in place - altho there are still some things to sort -
I hope all those who attend have a great time.
Seems the meeting went well hun.
It also seems John aint being very charitable if he's getting 100% of the bar.........
£100 for the weekends electricity?
He will make that in half an hour on the bar!
People just aint as generous as they used to be huh?

Creature, its called rally stress, we all get it no matter how well things are organised. The trick is to not take things personally and if things do occasionally go a bit wobbly then get people to help you. Don't try and fix all problems yourself, delegate a bit. I'm sure there will be people there willing to help.
if you want a hand with out creature, just ask and ill chip in.

what is the catering arrangements on site, I asume you have organised a burger van etc. but doe the pub do meals etc?
I think the pub does do meals Pierre, but not sure it has a 'dining room'.
There is however a great pub in the next village (Yielden) that does do lovely grub. Only a mile or so down the road too.
I know coz I grew up in that village and I was a waitress there when I was a young sprightly gal....... ;) The pub is called The Chequers.

Someone telephoned Patch from 3Bs Northants to say they had travelled from Norfolk to the BMF but found it was tickets only, and needed a rally to go to in the near vicinity, so I gave them information about THIS rally as Bedford is fairly close...so hopefully they made it over and were able to get in. The idea was that they would then come over to the Northants gig on the Sunday.

right still a few bills to pay and waiting to here about cost of damage to toilets and a blown cone on one of the speakers that blew on Friday nite (as kit was donated free of charge I believe its only correct to cover cost of replacement.)
total income (everything) £4,538.27
total expenses (so far) £2,936.03
making a potential N.A.B.D donation of
£1,602.24
As I have said a few bills to sort out so final figures should be confirmed in next few weeks.
I have spoken to some of the bands there as £170.86 was donated by you to help cover there expences and so far the money raised has either been requested to goto N.A.B.D or to covers Robins Repair costs.
An excellent amount of money raised - many thanx to everyone who donated . To my Youngest son Micheal for taking a any spare change tin around (that I didnt know about till very late Sat nite) in Fact to all my helpers in all there efforts.
A basic spreadsheet is available with rough breakdown of expenses and monies raised if anyone wants to see it please pm your email addy and i will email a copy to you. You will need excel to view it (a free excel veiwer is available from microsoft). Unfortuantly I didnt ask for count on T-shirts or badges to be kept (an error that will be corrected next year)
Can people cross post this thread or contents please im just too tired at mo and am gonna take a few days out....
and finally to you for coming to this event and creating the atmosphere and letting my friends and I entertain you....

That's what i meant - i didnt see any damage to the toilets. The mens toilets in the pub smelt disgusting, but when I went in to steal some toilet roll on Sunday lunchtime there was no damage, and none to the womens all weekend.
I stuck my head in all 4 of the ones behind control on Sunday morning to find the sweetest smelling one and they were in need of a clean but not damaged.... so that leaves the 2 in the trading field or the disabled one near control....
I just hope someones not trying to pull a fast one on Creature thats all.

when we were talking to Creature on sunday mornin he mentioned that the door on the disabled loo next to the pub had been broken ..............maybe its that one he means
That was on its last legs from the Thursday tho!!!! It was dragging along the floor when I got there.....
Erm.......when Mick, Mark, Drew and I were moving the toilets on Thursday night coz the tosser who delivered 'em dumped in the middle of the stalls paddock!, Mick and I did mention the door was bent on the disabled one by the pub. We actually repaired it so if the loo company tries to skank Creature for any damage, Creature should just tell them to fukk off!
Anyway, they are insured for damage, and if we had known they would be so petty, we would have checked the fukkin' things before he left...........
And if they say we damaged them by movingthem, they can also fukk off coz we have photographic evidence that we were very careful with them.
We had this shyte many times with the celts rallies, bog companies trying to say we had wrecked the toilets...........wtf do they expect? 3oo+bikers pissin' and ****ting in 'em all weekend..............
