A while ago, someone posted about a website where you can enter the ebay item you're bidding on, and a maximum price you want to pay and this website will stick in a bid right before the end (gazumping type thing).
Someone keeps using it on anything I bid on lately, and I would like to level the playing field.
Does anyone have any ideas where this site is?

Still worth watching an auction to the end though.
I bid £99 for a bike I wanted, 2 mins before the end of the auction somebody bid £100.
I managed to get it for £101 though :D
i usually go in manually wih seconds to spare and bid £200 for any item.

Though I don't approve of sniping sites.

problem with sniping software is its only any good when not a lot of people are using it, when every bidder is sniping, the advantages are all gone. and it has the downside of driving prices upwards as people get caught up in the desperate bidding frenzy. dont use em myself, they just arent fair. i put in my max bid and if i get outbid, im not going to throw more cash at it. ive never wanted anything on ebay THAT much!

im sick of people ending the damned auctions early
recently really pissed a guy off, was bidding on a bike, had actually placed a bid of £1501.02, bidding went to 700ish sometimes the odd amounts help, anyways the bike gets pulled from ebay, contact him and he tells me that hes sold it already outside of ebay, sold it for £1500 !!! :(
anyway I managed to alter a copy of the bid confirmation email that ebay sends you, forwarded it to him making it look like I had bid a max of £2200
to say that matey was a little gutted was an understatement,
nibble bid
Excellent term! I like that.

The reason you lost the items mitch, is that you didn't bid high enough , simple as that. An auction sniper will only win if they bid higher than anyone else. Many people don't understand how ebay's automatic bidding system works and the put lots of little bids in, then they moan when they lose.
s'funny, I totally understand how ebay's bidding system works  I only have so much to bid so I tend to bid low and then go back later, but get p1ssed off with other people who do use bots or whatever
HB, you don't play poker like that do you? Chucking all your money into the pot on getting a flush in the hope no-one's got four aces...? didn't think so :)

The difference is that if someone bids higher than you, you dont lose your money.
If you bid £200 for an item, thats what you are prepared to pay, bear in mind that just because something goes for a pound or two more than your max bid it doesnt mean that was someone elses limit, they may have had a maximum of £500 if they really want the item.
My philosophy for an item that I need - how much is it new, from a shop? My maximum bid is that price less the cost of postage and something for the hassle of mail order (which varies).
Stuff that I want, I decide how much cash I have spare, and bid not a pound more.

I do the same johnr. If I do want it desperately, i just put a high bid in. I sold some van shelves a few weeks ago and one bidder put 34 bids in, each one £1 higher than the last. They went for much more than his maximum and he emailed me at the end of the auction saying how desperate he was for them and would I sell to him. I told him to go forth and multiply and have banned him from bidding on any of my stuff. tossers who nibble bid and then complain should be hung.that was me you twat  :D
Never had you down as a nibbler Fatty...
