Simple rule. Check your message centre on the website. If it's empty, the e-mail is a fake.

I only ever respond via the message centre and never by e-mail, not just because of spoof messages, but because a mate of mine got harrassed big style by some arsehole who bought a phone off him and then never paid. Despite about 10 messages to the 'purchaser' via the message centre, the arsehole always replied by e-mail, saying he'd pay up. A few months later, my mate (after warning him) relisted the item and sold it to someone else. The arsehole then gave him negative feedback and got his phone number off eBay and started ringing him all the time, being abusive to my mate and his mum. Needless to say, my mate has now kicked off big-style.
