I've been offered some but can't decide whether to use it
Bearing in mind I've got a hardboard floor anyway so it's not that cold to work on.
I can't see any real advantage to using it.... unless I'm missing a trick.
Opinions would be most helpfull

Depends if your bike leaks oil or not ....I use old 22" monitor boxes flattened out to floor the garage don't get too manky if the scottoiler has been turned up too much and easily replacable for me...

I'd say put the carpet down Freak. A little comfort all round, and it will be nice to sit on when you piss off the Mrs and she sends ya to the shed.................. :p

I got it.
Depends how long ya spend in there i guess.
Makes kneeling and clambering under the bike that but more bearable.

The two things that concern me most is losing very small parts in the pile
and fire. Surely carpet soaks up lots of flamable stuff, including gasses

Well i wouldn't advocate the use of deep pile shag, more the cheapo nylonish stuff.
Dont catch fire once it's gone solid caked with grease, brake fluid, oil, coppaslip, and tears of frustration...

I've got carpet tiles in my shed (at least there were last time I could see the floor :o ) if the bike does drip oil you can easily swap them around.

it just so happens freak i have some of these left over from doing fayjis bedroom.
Striking and stylish floor covers designed for parking motorcycles on
Durable nylon fibred mat with oil and water resistant non-slip synthetic backing
Great colour coded designs
Use in home garages to show off bikes, and give better comfort and protection when working on the floor..

as well as keeping the knees safe, when things do drop the carpet tends to keep them in the place it drops instead of it bounceing on the wooden floor into places where it'll never be seen again.

i use a large marron velvet curtain for catching bits i drop stops em bouncing away over the floor...........shiney stands out too.
carpet is good for the ageing knees too, i have a square i move around as required.

Carpets in a bike shed..........................Yes - makes thing look pritty
Carpets in a workshop..........................No - soaks up oil etc, fire risk
Carpets in a fabrication workshop...........Deff No

if you want summat to keep ya old knees from cold, and help ward of chalfonts while working on the bike, get a chunk of foam (preferably fire retardent) shove it in a bag to keep it clean.
or better still while working on the bike, if you suffer from lead arse syndrome (allus sitting down to work) get 1 of these seats (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=020110591&r=2049&g=107) or get 1 of these seats (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=020110590&r=2049&g=107)

Well I got workshop antislip/anti Fatique mats down in my garage...
They come in 300mm X 300mm squares x 18mm thick, they lock together like a big jigsaw.....

They are really kind to mi old knees and warm if yer having to work on the floor for long periods of time..

I bought them for the woodcarving area..Saves chisel and gouge cutting edge if yer drop 'em...

How true!
I get told the garage is mine to keep the bike and car in.
However, me mam insists on putting an old bed in there, cupboards, shed loads of other junk.
All I need is a microwave and a kettle, and it could be my new home... :D

I've got carpet in the front third of my garage (it also has a fridge, sink and phone point :) ).

I originally put the carpet down to reduce the dust from the crappy concrete floor from settling on everything, but it is much more comfy to sit/kneel on when doing stuff to the bikes, and I guess it does make it a little warmer out there ... not that I loiter in the garage if I can avoid it over the winter.

My garage is carpeted, wouldn`t do without it
and as i work in the shopfitting game its easy to get it
if you go into a staples the stuff they got in the doorways is whats on my garage floor, tuff and lasts, even with welding burns
only drawback is the swaff off me lathe gets stuck in it, and when you kneel down on that it stick in yer knees
bugger

mates parents re carpeted their bedroom, was a red really long shag pile carpet they threw out, fitted the garage a treat, really cosy until i noticed it was holding alot of damp under there,if your place is guaranteed water tight do it,otherwise itll hold any damp and rot.
