I was wandering what you lot thought of American Chopper (Discovery Channel)?
I think the bikes are top notch, but I won't be asking for any parenting tips from Paul snr!!!

Don't like the bikes ('cept the 'Old School' chop) but I can appreciate the engineering. And yeah,I know they outsource a lot of their parts.

They're not bloody bike builders - they take a frame that someone else's made, a fuel tank that someone else's made, forks/brakes/mudguards/oil tanks etc etc and bolt them all together. Then they add a few fancy bits, get someone else to cut them a set of billet wheels, get someone else to paint them and then charge someone a bloody fortune for it ...
That's not custom bike building, as far as I'm concerned. ;)

they are not builders
they are decorators
and why the fck does every item paul jnr make have to be made out of plate or bar that would'nt look out of place on a ship.
8mm plate where 4mm would more than surfice.
all the performance gains from those big revtech/s&s engines is mostly lost dragging the heavy assed creation around.
i guess it's an american thing that in your face built like a 59 caddy look.

Likes the programme at first for a few different things, bikes arguing etc but think it getting bit boring same old stuff now in the 2nd series.
I reckon vinnie is about to walk out, then they'll be up shlt creek, lol.
Would be surprised if there a 3rd series.
Great biker build off is the best, except the 1 with the ness twats on, the son seems bearable but the poncey w@nker of a dad, ffs.

Might be nice bloke, but did you see the great biker build off with him on? Was all about show with him, and to cap it off that w@nker paul yaffe turns up to be on his team (more like to get his face on telly). Him and his henchmen turning up in a Rolls, got a cocktail bar set up in the workshop along with full heated buffet, if that aint poncey i dont know wot his.
At least his son got out of ness workshop and done the set up in a garage.
I did prefer dads bike to sons though.
Billy Lane, Indian Larry(rip) and Chica is wot it all about.

Couple of points about OCC they have been building bikes for 20 years, as a business the company started out as Orange county steel works ( they still own that too) as for they dont make anything, the frames are made in their steel works, 50% of their tank are made themselves, they also make the mudguards and a lot of other parts. Only know this cause my brother in law in the states has dealt with them for years.
I think the programe can best be described as the Osbournes on wheels, but its entertainment and thats what its meant to be. Some of the bikes are bloody awful some of them are cool ( only my opinion). There are literally 1000's of builders in the US and loads of people are having a dig at OCC because their famous and making a fair bit of money, good luck to them I reckon.

i hate programs like that - they are destroying the custom seen.
Why oh why wont the programme makers & magazenes do real bike building ( the sort you rarely see these days). Built in a 6x4 or 8 x 6 shed, stick welders angle grinder hack saw and lots of time.
I really miss sundays which was religously spent round one of your m8s shed ( or your own) helping them to build/service/modify there bike - with cans of beer and a smoke....
sadly them days have gone.............................................
another thing that annoys me is that most customs are only ridden to rallys ( some still trailor and ride them in from 5-10 miles away)... WHY - it defeats the object of owning a custom.... I ride mine all year round and all i get is how could you or when are you gonna finnish it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is dammed finnished ( well as finnished as a custom gets ) But i ride mine daily and its called GENERAL WARE N TEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Couple of points about OCC they have been building bikes for 20 years, .
As far as I was aware, they only started building bikes in the late '90s...

Not having Sky I can't comment of the programme.
The sad thing is that they have tapped into a market that the yanks have grabbed with both hands! Like their "bolt on Rat" bikes.
Ok, I've done my fair share of knocking the Proffessional Chop builders in this country, but by what I've seen, I consider our pro. chop builders far superior to most of the US ones!
The only US Pro chop builder I consider of any note, is that Guy that built the Chop with the Centerless drive back wheel.
The difference between the english builders and the US ones is that the english guys care more for the artistic merit of what they do, then consider making a profit. Whereas the Yanks are out for the profit and bugger anything else!

another thing that annoys me is that most customs are only ridden to rallys ( some still trailor and ride them in from 5-10 miles away)... WHY
Gotta admit, I only ride mine to rallies. I go out on a friday and come home on a sunday nearly every week from mid march till late october although I do do club nights on a wed aswell (40 mile round trip) all come rain or shine. I've clocked up just short of 6000 miles this year on me hardtail, mostly in rain. I have a works van in the week which is nice to get into on a monday and great to get away from on a friday. If I spent any more time on me bike a) It would fall to bits and b) I'd fall to bits. Fair play to anyone who rides through the winter. I did it when I was younger but now I've got a heater...sorry! (well...not really  )
PS I'D NEVER, NEVER trailor it to a show... NEVER

Well well, I never thought so many of you watched it. I thought I was the only one!!!
The builder of the centreless hub drive by the way was Billy Lane.
I wouldn't say no to most of there bikes, but at least £20,000 for a bike is a bit mad. Not VFM!!!!
I just watched The Great Biker Build Off which which had Chica competing against Hank Young from Georgia. In 30 days these 2 guys came up with 2 radically different designs and then rode them to a show in Louisville Kentucky, in February. I admire the ingenuity of both of the "artists", for their vision in their respective bikes and for having the nads to ride 350 miles in freezing temperatures just for the honour of being the best.
This programme is much better then American Chopper, as funny as that show is, because it has a point to it. The Spirit Of Competition. It brings out the best in all the builders featured.

in britain we tend to concider function more, as well as form.
i don't care if you revtech engine is a 2 litre job you do not need a 5" primary belt drive on it. and still use a standard wirth final drive.
harley engines i think do look good, slim, compact so why spoil those lines with a belt drive that looks like a small escallator. and if you've ever ridden a bike or trike for that matter with the sort of trail some of those chops run, then you know it's no fun. sure it looks cool cruising with just one hand on the bars. you don't need any hands, with that sort of trail straight is what it will want to do, changing direction is what will take the effort.
they use raked yokes on some of them to pull the trail back some, but it's not much.
americans are hero worshipers by nature, big in patriotism, how many of us know all the words of the national anthem, english one i mean.
we tend to favour the under dog, americans go to watch dangerous sports to see they fav heroes win, many of us go to see them fail.
good or bad american chopper, great biker build off, do more to promote the custom scene than they damage it

theres a point dracken said, revtech engines.
All the bikes on american chopper and biker build off are custom built engines, revtech, s&s etc so why do they always stop at a harley dealers and loads of harley owners going woo hoo etc cos there is probably not 1 bit of harley on the f*cking bikes.
Great biker build off on tonight, discovery home and leisure.
