It makes it very very hard not to be racist when we go to pick up a dog from an Asian family and find this

Unfortunately I KNOW about animal cruelty
Ditto the comments on your job, Bunbag, and I also have the utmost respect because it must be the most dreadful of jobs at times, but Slightlymuddy's right too.
Hopefully with time, TLC and a new home, that's going to be a lovely looking dog.

my respect as well bunbag if you keep it to arseholes and dont apply it to race, beleive me i know this is to do with individuals not ethnic connections. cant abide anyone who mistreats animals, this country has a horrendous record especially up here in the north east. i personally would arrest and then keep these gits in the same conditions they kept the animals

Since January this year we have rescued in the region of 150 dogs. The 'owners' we were able to get a prosecution against for dog fighting have mainly been Asians. Thier religion doesn't allow for them to keep animals but a lot do as they can make them money. They don't see them as pets they are commodities. Yes I agree whites can do and see them as this too but I have seen a marked increase in Asians owning them.

That would be too good for them. I have never understood animal cruelty (I feel guilty if I shout at one of the Groovekittens!!), but sometimes it just seems to be down to sheer stupidity. Our Irish Wolfhound came to us when he was five months old; we were his third home. The last owners reckoned he was getting too big for them. He's an Irish Wolfhound for god's sake, the biggest breed of dog in the world - what did they bloody expect?

I've always wanted a dog, but had the common sense to know I can't devote it the time to look after it properly.
I used to have two cats (more independant, didn't need taking for walks), then discovered I was allergic to cats.
If you can't look after them, don't have them.
Cheers,
Byrnie.

Thats an awful site, I'm glad the dogs in the UK have people like yourself looking out for them, over here the MSPCA do not have the authority to take animals away from their owners without the owners consent, ridiculous state of affairs, one of our land owner neighbours kept 3 dogs in a stable for so long without food they turned on each other through hunger, they had bitten chunks of flesh out of each other, one of the dogs is so badly bitten it looks like its been sown together like a rag doll with all the stitches the vet had to use, when it was reported the Wardens were powerless to remove the dogs, so they were liberated to new, more caring households, My own lurcher was in a similar state as the staffie when we took him away from his smackhead owner who had kicked him and beat him so hard he knocked one of his fangs out, I think the cnut who had our Billy is in prison now.....best place for him.
Keep up the good work

We took on our second dog as a stray, we found her outside the back gate on new years eve 2000, she was old then, about 11, thought she wouldn`t last long as she was a german sheperd cross, the old bugger is still going and is bad temperd, nearly blind, deaf and pi$$is herself all the time and tries to bite me every time i`m in the house
the other mut is a colli cross and is 14 and going strong and is a pi$$taker
and knows every trick in the book for beggin food, he was a rescue dog too
was 18 months old when we had him, but by god can he fight, hes had rottys and dobermans on the floor, noly ever beaten by a staffie, so i took him to the vets and knackers off, so he only fights now and again, and don`y like me
my dogs love me i`m sure

Firstly, not all Asians have a problem with dogs. The “problem”, if you want to call it that, exists with Muslims only.
If you are a Muslim, a dog can be owned for purposes such as the following:
1. A trained dog for hunting. In the Islam faith you are only allowed to hunt for food; there is no such thing as hunting for fun, they are not allowed to kill or torture animals or drive them out of their habitats for the fun of it.
2. A trained dog as a guide. This would be the case if a person is blind and he/she has no choice but to keep a dog for essential services. In this case, it is permissible for him/her to keep a dog inside the house once it has been trained for service, but it is still recommended that the dog have its own sleeping arrangement.
3. A dog trained for police duties.
4. A guard dog to guard houses or property.
5. A dog used by farmers to shepherd cattle and sheep.
They are not, however, allowed to keep a dog as a pet, since it is deemed to not a very clean animal. Many traditions and habits that have built up around all religions have come about as a result of religious leaders using their status to help impose “best practice” in areas such as health and education etc. In times gone by, diseases such as rabies and distemper were a very serious threat, and it was useful to community leaders to instil a fear of dogs into the people as this meant that people avoided getting ill.
Allah's Apostle said, "If somebody keeps a dog, he loses one Qirat (of the reward) of his good deeds everyday, except if he keeps it for the purpose of agriculture or for the protection of livestock."
