had a letter today from a bloke in london who is writing a book on the zeebrugge raid in 1918 in which a private william bushell took part. unfortunately i can't help the chap as my granddad who's name was private william bushell was in the infantry where he fought at ypres and the somme. to get to the point it's really got me thinking about him and i'd love to try find some mention of him from ww1 but i have'nt a clue where to start?

bin down this road my great grandad only seems to exist on one census and on the commonwelath war graves commision site
first off try the cwgc site this will give you his regiment date of death ,place of burial(if he didnt survive the war)
otherwise visit the public records office at kew http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/?homelink=main_military
heres a bit from thier website on finding military records for people, also if you know his regiment scour thier website, if they have one. hth
