There seem to be loads of white fumes coming out of the exhaust pipe this morning and every morning, doesn't seem too bad once I've got going. Any idea what it might be?
Also not very happy today but that might well be because I've got me summer spark plugs in and need to change them to 8's now it's cold.

often just means it's cold Mrs, time to worry is when the fumes are black or have a blue tinge. White ones are ok

Don't think Mrs R's used to having a bike which works normally... at least it ain't burning oil now!

when you burn a fossil fuel it gives off water.on a warm day this dissapates quickly in warm weather, in cold weather its like your breath, you can see it.
as it is clearing as the exhaust warms up it sounds fine.
but just keep an eye on the temp gauge if it starts climbing higher than normal or if you hear gurgling from under the bonnet when you turn the engine off, it maybe a head gasket problem.
do not ever remove the rad/expansion cap while the engine is hot. as you could find yourself with a gallon or so of scalding hot water over you. which in an engine can be over 100 degs centigrade. as water boils at a higher temp in a sealed container.

Hmmm, the bike is running like a rusty tractor today even though it was on prime (haven't got round to changing that fuel line yet) also stalled quite a few times. I'm not inclined to ride it tomorrow, also has oil leak seeping out from the top end of the engine, Mitch says the top o' the engine needs bolting down better but it all seems a bit dodgy to me!!!

was'nt the engine just rebuilt?.
if so it should have been tightened up properly then.
modern gaskets have done away with the job of having to retorque them.

remove the fuel tap there maybe crud in it from the tank.

That is interesting, I think we had better ring up the blerk who did the engine and see if he knows what the problem might be - that engine job was £650.
As for the other prob, we think it definitely is fuel starvation so we're going to take all that apart at the weekend.
Does worry me though all that oil leaking out, not a huge amount but it's there none the less!

i'm not sure about the gt but some bikes have a brass gauze filter in the carb just above the float needle. you can usually see it when you remove the float needles.
i had some bright spark who removed the fuel tap filter and all sorts of crap then gets caught by the gauze in the carbs. which is a bugger to remove.
so i just pryed the 4 little gits out and put an inline filter in the fuel line

Just spoken to yon gadgie who rebuilt Mrs R's engine and he said he'd tighten down the head for us - for nowt! Though of course that means trekking up to Essex on my next weekend off - bollox, that won't be for about a month... as Shudy's coming over next week and the week after is the Hex-rated... arsebiscuits.

Daft thing is, after the exhaust fell off on Wednesday and I put it back on in me lunch hour, it's now running a lot better. I still need to sort out the sucking bit of the suck-bang-blow equation (in other words, get the vacuum pipe sorted for all you smutmeisters out there! :D)
