Twenty-three Months, Five Days, Sixteen Hours .....

Hey Mr Bike Builder I know that you're buildin' for others
But I keep gettin' asked the same question by my friends an' my brothers
They say "Stevie, when will your bike be finished an' you be ridin' around ?"
So I checked up some dates in my diary an here's what I found

Do you know how fu<kin' long it's been ?

CHORUS
Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished
Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

Well an influence of mine, Steve Earle, said a phrase an' I love it
He said you shouldn't have to suffer for your art but if you do put it in it
An' I've paid for my bike with all of the gigs I have done
So to vent all my anger I thought that I'd write me a song

'Cos it's been

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished
Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

Now I don't know if I would have started if all this I'd known
'Cos the shear bloody length of this waitin' is gettin' me down
An' I know at the start there were problems with the suspension
But for fu<ks sake I'd like my bike back before I draw my pension

'Cos it's been

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished
Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an' twenty-seven minutes
Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

To be quite honest I shoulda asked his girlfriend to build me bike 'cos she's got hers finished in about a sixth of the time mine's taken - possibly less.

If I ever venture into the world of askin' someone to build me a bike again please, SOMEBODY, give me a slap

I think it's a case of "It'll be ready when it's done"

Don't know what to say meself really Pat 'cos the way I feel at the moment I'm not to sure that I want it in the mag 'cos you know what they say about if you ain't got somethin' good to say etc. I know the build is great but the length of time this is takin' to put the finishin' to it is drivin' me up the wall and I really don't know that I'd want these thoughts (an' believe me those lyrics are really tame) published. :( :(

Dont worry about that now mate, once you get the bike and ride it a while then see how you feel, all that anger will fly away in the wind LOLOL
No seriously I do understand how angry you must be, and my heart does go out to you. What I've seen is truly stunning though, no consolation at the moment I know.... sorry mate.

I go past his workshop on my way to my club's meetings

Stevie. I know how ya feel. I had me bike at ******* for over a year until I pulled out cause little/nothing was happening. I lost a LOT of money (my choice, no one forced me) but taking it elsewhere seemed a better option to get me bike built and on the road within a reasonable time. The only bikes getting worked on at his place seemed to be the ones whose owners were doing the building. The builders a nice bloke but he could do wiv getting caught up a bit/lot. Does make me feel my actions were justified though because your bike had been there at least a couple of months before mine and I've now been riding mine since April. I hope you get lucky.

Don't worry about it mate, he already knows of it's existance.

An' Freak, thanx for that. It'll be there 'til he gets it finished 'cos it really ain't that far off now. It's just the "well I've had to do a couple of other jobs for folks to pay the rent" that fu<ks me off. My bike's paid for in full now, so he's had my money to pay the rent.
That said folks, the work is really good an' he is a nice bloke but he does need to think about the business at hand a little more rather than just takin' in more an' more work.

Anyhow, I've had my two-penneth.

RANT MODE OFF
just get my bike finished

An' in case you're wonderin' what all the fuss is about try lookin' here

I can sympathise with you, Stevie. I'm lucky enough to have the time / facilities / mates with expertise to build my own.
Still get ticked off that it takes too long to finish them.
Thing is though that, as Pat said, when you get it on the road all the hassle and grief will dissappear - in fact at some time in the future you'll say to yourself "it was worth the wait".

Hang tough, mate, nothing worth having comes easy.... ;)

Well, time has moved on, things have progressed, after two years in Mr Bike Builders workshop it's been back on the road, now it's back off the road, but it'll be back on the road soon-ish. Carbs have been stripped, slides have been freed (one was well an' truely 'tight' which was why things went rather awol last weekend), all cleaned up and bores an' slides polished which was supposed to have been done at said workshop - 'two bloody hours it took me to clean your carbertooters' as it was put to me.
Anyways, looks like not too much damage has been done - luckily. Gonna get the cylinder block re-sleeved an' a couple of new pistons. Loads of trich' an' then loads of flushin' oil. My mate Grizz from the 3B's is very fu<kin' special. He's even got the patience to talk me thru doin' a load of this stuff meself, which if you know me you'll know that I'm honest enuf to admit that I know fu<k all about - but I'm learnin' now. I've had a great day.

So here's a couple more verses added to the original song for your delictation. Hopfully there'll be only one more verse an' that'll be when it's back on the road an' we've sorted the other few bits that need doin'.

Twenty Three Months, Five Days, Sixteen Hours ...........

Hey Mr Bike Builder I know that you’re buildin’ for others
But I keep gettin’ asked the same question by my friends an’ my brothers

They say "Stevie, when will your bike be finished an’ you be ridin’ around ?"

So I checked up some dates in my diary an here’s what I found

"Do you know how fu<kin’ long it’s been ?"

CHORUS

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

Well an influence of mine, Steve Earle, said a phrase an’ I love it

He said you shouldn’t have to suffer for your art but if you suffer put it in it

An’ I’ve paid for my bike with all of the gigs I have done

So to vent all my anger I thought that I’d write me this song

"It’s been"

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

‘Cos the shear bloody length of this waitin’ is gettin’ me down

An’ I know at the start there were problems with the suspension

But for fu<ks sake I’d like my bike back before I draw my pension

"It’s been a while now"

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

So please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be finished

Twenty-three months, five days, sixteen hours an’ twenty-seven minutes

Oh please tell me Mr Bike Builder when will my bike be done

Well two years to the day in the workshop it was finally done

With a new set of keys an’ a full MOT it came home

But it took but a moment of terror for the penny to drop

When I came to my first traffic junction, it didn’t stop

"Where’s me fu<kin’ brakes?"

So we went to a rally last weekend, I was out to have fun

I spent the evenin’ drinkin’ an’ chattin’ with me mates Tiz an’ John

On the way home next day it ran lean an’ I ran out of luck

One bloody great hole in the piston an’ me engine was fu<ked

"WHAT THE F!!K .... ?"

This Sunday we're gonna clean out the crankcases with a couple of gallons of trich an' see how much crap comes out with it. The barrels an' pistons have now been ordered an' should be here early next week along with a full gasket set (eat your heart out. Full set of gaskets inc copper washers - £30. It's good to have an' old brit bike). Can't do anythin' the next weekend as it's our February Freezer Rally w/e - see events. Things are movin' on. An' I'm hopin' to get that song recorded along with around 8 others in the next month - just sortin' out some time in a mates studio. Lookin' to have that also for the Celtic's.

Hi folks. Latest update is that the engine is now cleaned out - flushed well an' truely. Got some small swarf out an' continued to flush until we didn't. Blue neon light really shows up any shiney silver stuff down there in the cases, an' a garden pump spray thingy gets the trich into all those hard to reach places. Used a little blue neon torch an' lowered it right down in the cases, had a bloody good look round. Certainly looks clean now. Found a few bits under the timing cover that certainly don't belong - I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THEY GOT THERE YOU WANKER (not you personally readin' this, but I know who I mean - FFS CLEAN YER BLOODY WORKBENCH !!!!!!!! NOT FU<KIN' IMPRESSED ONE BIT)

Anyways, it's all ready to start goin' back together now :D

Things took a turn for the worse today.

Yesterday we put the engine back together but once we started kickin' it over it started tightenin' up to the point where we had to pull it all apart again.
Tried again today. Put the barrels an' pistons back on, left the head off. Started kickin' an' there we were again with a very tight engine. Stripped it down again. It's gonna have to come right down this time 'cos looks like the big end shells have gone on one cylinder. Gonna check the bloody lot.

Yeah, I've had the odd moment when I am a bit pi55ed off thinkin' about it ....

BUT I ain't lettin' it get me down 'cos every cloud has a silver linin' an' mine is that I'm learnin' shedloads of stuff. I've still got either of the bikes belongin' to my missis to ride so it ain't all bad news. Me mate Griz is bein' an absolute star about all this an' has vowed to see this right thru.

It's feckin' great to have good mates :)

Tho I think he may have one or two words to say to Mr Bike Builder over what he found in the crankcase. I've attatched a pic of the piece of alloy (absofeckinlootly nuthin' to do with my bike at all). AAAAaaaargh !!!!!!

jesus stevie that is bad!

wouldn't wanna be in mr bike builder's shoes....

anyway is it sorted now?

we'll be sourcing the correct gasket today, and hopefully getting it finished this week....just need to get the handlebars swapped now, though we need the attaching bits for the new ones

will give yer a call later eh?

Try me on the home phone number after 8.30pm Doro. If ya don't have it it's on my website I think. Either that or try my mobile. That'll be with me the rest of the day.

I think it may be a wee while before it's back on the road.

To think. If that tw@t had done the job all proper like. Sorted the carbs proper like - y'know, checked that they were workin' (then again, look at my brakes) then the bloody thing wouldn't have holed the piston an' I wouldn't be havin' to deal with all this now. If, if, if, if. To55er. Still, it should be stripped down within a week of me gettin' back from the States (holiday was booked before all this an' I'm sure I'm gonna enjoy it. But I'd rather be sortin' my bike thanx) an' we'll hopfully have a better idea what it's gonna entail to get it back on the road.

The saga continues .....

Hey FF. Wait an' see with how much venom I sing 'Twenty Three Months .... etc' at the Duk Dik
