View Full Version : hallowe'en treats
I have a great recipe for witches hats
use
ice cream cones
digestive or rich tea biscuits
black food colouring or black icing
red licorice laces
silver balls
small sweets like dolly mix etc
melted chocolate or jam
1. coat biscuits and cones with black stuff
2. fill cones with sweets
3. stick biscuits on cones with jam or chocolate (widest end obviously)
4. tip cones up so you now have your hat, decorate with the balls and laces
being lazy I usually just paint everything with food colouring and stick em down with jam
can vary them and make wizzard hats
kids love em
:D
if I'm really lucky kris will now go and look in the recipe drawer and find the picture (which I cut out of a magazine) and scan it in...yeahhhh...or I can do it tonight)

there ya go :D
I've had a thought of how you can adapt these to make 'em MAN-SIZE.
Get a traffic cone and dip it into sweet batter, like a panckae mix.
Deep fry that at your local chippy, take it home and remove the traffic cone.
Fill it with BIG sweets..(porridge wog can probably furnish you with those)
Hey Presto!

I find it quite amusing to ask the little snots "what do you want" and when they say 'trick or treat', I ask them about it and the usual reply has some thing to do with american customs and pumpkins, so I ask them about english customs at this time of year and they ain't got a clue.
isn't it about time we got rid of all this commercial crap coming from america.
No mate, it's a brill excuse for lighting Fires......... :D
hmmm, now Bill? you got me thinking, cos I reckon most USA stuff originates from here anyway (or Italy or France or Spain or Israel or any of the other countries that helped make America lol)
so I did some looking and according to the history channel....
http://www.historychannel.com/perl/search.pl?word=halloween
the custom originates from the Romans and Celts....
Bonfires were lit, offerings were made of dainty foods and sweets, and people would disguise themselves as one of the roaming spirits, to avoid demonic persecution. Survivals of these early practices can be found in countries of Celtic influence today, such as the United States where children go from door to door in costumes demanding trick or treat.
and I'm not sure whether it was the USA who even popularised the custom, cos we used to do it when we were ikkle kids and we didn't have a TV and I'd never heard of America...!
but if you want I'll do another search on google to see when it was popularised
should I?
want me to?
ok then seeing as you asked so nicely ;)
yyeeesssssssss google IS the oracle *grin*
ooooo btw thanks gypsy for scanning me thing ;)
:D
.
this is from a pagan site
The Druids of old adhered to strange dietary restrictions, and on the night of the Festival of Death they go from home to home demanding these peculiar foods. If the people comply, they pass on in silence; if their demands are not met, the people and their home are cursed with trouble, sickness and death.
this is from some wierd site
. In recent years the custom of ‘trick or treating’ has gained in popularity. Although we commonly associate this practice with America, the custom originated in England as ‘Mischief Night’ when children declared one ‘lawless night’ of unpunished pranks (usually May Day eve or Halloween).
yeah - I don't let the Americans take credit for anything - cos they didn't exist some 200 years ago...!
naaaaaa we got history...!
