right then as my current project starts coming to an end, I am looking to the next one
want to build something really mad, off the wall, completely from the ground up, but want to run a large single cylinder 4 stroke lump
all I can think of is the suzuki DR800
anything else that I am forgetting??
prefer modernish japanese engine as do miles

depends how large you want
probably still down the trailie root
Rotax?
Yam XTZ660? Nice clean-looking engine.
Try an MX breakers - loads of them in Trials & Motocross News (weekly paper).

Dont bother with a Rotax, electrics aint to cracky. XTZ660 is good, KLR650 motor is always good, Transalp/dominator motors are peachy so on so forth. Apart from the DR your lookin about 600 to 660 cc though. Saying that, there is a 710 kit for the DR650 motor which is used in CCM's etc. :D
The Suzi Intruder is a single innit??

what about a jawa speedway single??? 12000 rpm 70+bhp 60thou base plate lowers the compression to run on unleaded!!! later motors slope like the old panthers!!! cheap to buy and rebuild!!! just a thought!!!! ;)

thought about the intruder motor, think they go to 700cc??
but the thing putting me off that was the fact that its an intruder engine, just dont want to build something around the engine from a factory custom, might sound wierd but just not what I wanted to do
I like the idea of the JAWA lump, might have a browse round the web for some more info on them, would like something fairly upright for the ideas I have in my head
might end up going down the route of large traily engine for ease of parts and gearing etc
I had a KLR but nothing but trouble with mine, maybe I had a bad one??
oh well off to search ebay and autotrader

Don't you mean the Savage (LS650)? Nice looking but a bit underpowered from what I hear.

The Suzi Intruder is a single innit??
The intruder isn't, but the savage is a big single 650. Had one in the states, smallish frame, good get up n go from a stop but very weedy at 70

There's an Aprilia 650 Pegaso Mk.III sitting in my shed doing nothing, for want of half an exhaust system and possibly a CDI and/or reg/rec. Got a lovely pair of USD front forks on it too....

hmm rode the pegaso a while back and quite liked it, what sort of money?
and why the cdi/rec reg required, it missing, or dead??
