View Full Version : Help Wanted On 100% Stand At Rallies!
With Pat's up and offing to parts warmer (you lucky sod! Not that I'm jealous at all ...), we need someone to help run the 100% stand at rallies.
So far the provisional list that it's going to is, basically, all the biggies:
Celtics
Nabbed
Welsh
Pro-Bike
Farmyard
R&B
Bulldog
Stormin'
That means you'll get into all the big biker events this year free, gratis and for nowt.
If you're up for it is (ready for this?) what you'd have to do is get over to Chester, pick up the van with the stock n' stand in it, take it to the rally, put the stand up and generally doss around all weekend in the style to which you are accustomed, then pull the stand down on the Sunday, take the van back to yours and then return it on the Monday to the office in Chester.
Be warned, events like the R&B and the Bulldog start on Weds these days, and most other big event organisers want you there on the Thursday.
If you fancy the gig and can do all the dates, drop me a PM, yeah?
Thanks.
:)

Help out?! Sounds more like run the stand to me, Nik ;)
We try not to work at rallies but I usually end up talking to customers if I'm on the stall  Willing to put in a couple of hours if I'm about and I'm needed here and there :)
so are you going to be in attendance with the stall Nik?
we can't do it cos we have our own stall to run :)

I know what you mean... we had the MAG stand at the Pissed Indian last year (and the year before) and we were pitched next to the BSH one. Glyn & Jewel looked like they were as busy as owt.
I hope you're gonna be there Nik? Keeping up appearances and all that? :D

well... one day, you might need a bike trailer...or summat! :p
Nah, in my case, it was the thought of us not being able to move house ourselves (one of us had to drive the car) and me being able to share the driving with Mrs R when we go on long jaunts round Ireland with the huge tent (sleeps six - unless it's us two, then it sleeps two and the other room's to keep the supplies in)

I know what you mean though... I spent my 'yoof' just riding bikes (like Nik, int'ground) - until I moved down south, when I got offered this fiesta for nowt. I was so pissed off 'cos I couldn't drive it.
Driving's OK, if there's a use for it, or when the bike's off the road - carrying stuff for a stall's alright too ;) I do hate being stuck in traffic if I've taken the car to work (as I've done today).

I know what you mean... we had the MAG stand at the Pissed Indian last year (and the year before) and we were pitched next to the BSH one. Glyn & Jewel looked like they were as busy as owt.
That was one of the quieter ones, too! Glyn and Jewel are absolutely incredible and I can't tell you how much we value them and the work they put into the stand and have done over the last few years. At events they're on the go from opening at 9.30am or so up until closing up sometimes in the early hours (as well as all the time getting to and from events, setting up and breaking down the stand). Sometimes we used to have to virtually throw them off the stand for an hour so they could get something to eat (can't order them to do that now because they've taken over the stand and merchandise as their own business so they give the orders now!)
We couldn't manage without them. They're an essential part of the BSH team, and it's good because people know them rather than having different faces on the stand at each rally. Wonderful people. :)
I got a Van and Trailer and live near the Welsh show ? You doing the Angelsea one as well ?

They are very valuable assets to the BSH team - being the regular public "faces" to the magazine
As were Pat 'n' Rik to 100% - Nik, although sorry to suggest it - you should either get yerself a licence!!!! (ooh the audacity!!) or a regular driver - we like to meet up and build friendships (as with Pat 'n' Rik, or, dare I say it Glyn 'n' Jules)

We couldn't have found better folk to 'represent' (hmm, that sounds a bit too corporate too!) us on the stand. They're brilliant at talking to people, they have endless amounts of patience, they work their socks off and they know what they're talking about.
But until they started up on their own we paid them for events because there is a lot of work involved (even in just getting to an event and setting up let alone working fifteen-hour days on the stand - and I assume that Nik wants someone to run the stand as well) and no matter how willing people are, you can't expect them to do that for just the price of a rally ticket. I'm sure Pat will say that there is no way on earth she could have taken the 100% stand to rallies without the incredible support and work of Rik (who did do it out of love and didn't get paid, the fool!!).

I have a reliability issue;
a) my bikes unreliable.
b) my cars unreliable
c) I'm unreliable
d) I have an unreliable life-style!
BUT........
I dont have much else to do, most of the time.
I do have a driving licence...... which is remarkeably clean, surprisingly!
And I am of reasonably able body...... its just the mental problems that have me on dissability.........
So if that lot dont put my CV to the bottom of the pile, I'd be willing to help out; maybe team up with Excalliber, if he's up for it, split the load a bit.
Only trouble I have with dates is that I have unexpected and highly critical events dropped on me at short notice that kind of govern my life at the moment, expecting something in May and gawd knows what from there;
But if stuck; e-mail me at short notice and if I'm not tied up with anything, am up to help, if any of that makes sense?!?

It is an absolute pain in the f*g arse collecting, manning and returning a stall you are not even making money on. What is the point? We saw the 100% Biker stall last year. Pat was there on her own looking lost and lonely. I am not surprised she has buggered off to sunny Spain or whatever. This is not my idea of a biker lifestyle. You would have to pay me megga bucks to do a job like this!!!
Creature
22-06-2006, 05:58 AM
Unfortuantly ladymonster, you have missed the point of the stand. Indeed of some stands in a similar situation.
Go and have a talk to the stall holders, you will probally find that as much as 20% dont make/take much money ar rallies, but use them as an outlet - IE:- they either take orders or from being at the ralliy and approachable get orders later on.......
As for the 100% stall, (yep I like many on here have helped out in the past) and yes I suppose its a lot of work, and probally doesnt pay for itself. BUT it lets people know that the mag is still there, also people like to come up and ask questions, either about the mag contects or possible contents. Also it is a meeting place for peopel to meet up. OK at the moment its not the meeting place it used to be, but Im sure as Nik settles into his new job and we all get used to him being there, the meeting point will get bigger again (if Nik wishes this).
Also 100% (and BSH) sponsers bands, marquees, custom shows and other things that you probally are not aware off... I am sure you would probally soon jump on the band waggon about someone who sponsers a part of a rally and isnt even there or cant be found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have spent many a happy hour on the 100% stand helping (hindering) Pat n Rik out and I can certainly say I always had a gret time - wether we had loads of customers/friends/people around the stall or were just sat there chatting away. In fact I even miss ir this year.
As for the stall Pat n Rik worked bloody hard to get it were it is now, and as you say sometimes it can be a lonely thing to do - but to see people face light up when they see you and feel that they can come over and talk to you as an equal - i am sure meant a lot to them......But then again maybe you cant understand that...

As you, and others on here know, we have a stall at some rallies. It's rare that we take a lot of money, but if we cover the stall fee we're happy, and we usually do. The point of our stall is, as you said, to get us out there, get our name known, to advertise my paintwork and the screenprinting, and we always get orders from rallies.
Even if we don't take much money we see peeps that we maybe haven't seen for ages, we catch up with folk and have a laugh.... and we love it! :D
And whether we have our stall there or not we always pop over to 100% to say hi to Nik and Fazerdaze, and anyone else that's there!
So you see ladymonster, life isn't always about making money hon! sorry!
The 100% stall isn't really about making money, as others have said, it's more about being out there and promoting the mag than anything else. If we take money, which we usually do, then that's all well and good, but the idea is just to be there, y'know?
:)

I think he should offer to work on a visordown merchandise stall at the next GP. Free t-shirt if you will say to his face what you'll type from behind the safety of a keyboard
