Not a lot of chops that people want to sell me, so i am looking into trying to build a chop. OR Has anybody got one to sell or project???
Is it better to start from a standard frame or just with a headstock and build up from there?
What is the best way to make a hardtail back end if a standard frame was to be used?( for the spindle to go thro and how to weld the new parts to the original frame-do you need to make a sleeve?)
What about jigs to hold it in place?
any help thanks

personally i would start with a stock frame of the type for that engine - at least you then have the bottom part of the engine cradle and a known headstock (and u can use the stock steering stem / bearings.)
jig - bolt frame to big bit of wood / metal with stock swingarm in place. use stock rim of wheel (no tyre) to get two points for new swingarm / tail. check, check and double check agin the alignment.
when welding, tack everything first, check again, weld a tiny bit at a time or it will all twist. buy a big set square...

Hi Allsorts...
Dunno how much you want to or can spend, but this was on e-bay up till yesterday, and got no bids! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2489983382&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT The auction has ended now, but the sellers phone number is on the ad - It might be worth giving him a ring?
If I'd had the cash to spare I'd have jumped at this.
Regards

This one's for sale...

It's the one at the top of the page, Ugly Neil's.
He's looking for offers around £2,500 for it. You can get on it and ride it away. It's a "historic vehicle" so you it doesn't cost anything to tax and I believe it's just been MOT'd.
The motor could really do with repainting, but other wise it's very up together.
If you want something different or cheaper, then I trip over a few here and there.

One of the best tips I was given is before and during final welding and wiv the yokes , forks and wheels in their correct, upright position, run a piece of string from the center of yer front wheel, over the headstock, down the top tube through to the center of the back wheel and pull it tight (weight it if necessary). This can show if the top end of your frame is aligned to yer wheel base.

Hey Alsorts,
The price on ours is around the £2500 mark - that is for a complete taxed and and tested roadgoing hardtail with paint by Ty at Pageant. On original plate - Not Q. Several trophies won over many years.
But if you don't want to spend that much then you won't even be able to build yerself a decent one.

you wont get anything worth having less than that price...
