my granny was very susperstitious

the usual

breaking a mirror = 7 years bad luck
stirring the tea = will cause an argument
putting shoes on furniture = bad luck
picking up pins & pennies = good luck
walking under ladders = bad luck
black cats = bad luck if they cross your path
pictures of birds or feathers in the house = bad luck
picking up dropped cutlery on a Friday = bad luck
putting up umbrellas in the house = bad luck
spilling salt = throw some over your left shoulder to ward off bad luck
new baby = cross it's palm with silver for good (financial) luck
new pram = bad luck to bring it into your house before the baby is born

funny how some of them I still instinctively follow and some I ignore cos 'it's superstitious nonsense' lol

the shoes on furniture - I never do that

and the baby ones I do

the rest I don't believe in

wierd huh?

Picking up Pennies - might just need it for something or to pass to someone else
I don't walk under ladders - ever
the rest I ignore, perhaps throw salt if I spill it, but it makes the ceramic tiles slippy

Yep, always but only if it's one on it's own. If there is more than one it's okay.

If I see a single magpie.. I salute him, and say 'Mr magpie go away and come again another day,'

madness. But have to. :D

Also..

don't do ladders... cross on stairs... say beetle juice 3 x in case it is true... and flick salt over left shoulder at the devil if I spill any.

Won't drink out of cup which has had two spoons used in it.. (ginger twins, and as am ginger...)

Don't pick a fight on a full moon...

that's all I am prepared to share. They're coming to take me away ...

I used to pick up old washers, nuts, bolts and screws, 'just in case'.
Never used one of them...ever.

Used to pick up women too but got a bad back now.............

Talking of which, whats the difference between a bint from birmingham and a dustbin?
The dustbin gets picked up more often.............................

Sometimes I'm a bit embarassed to be doing it but I do the picking up pennies and pins thing - just a habit learned from childhood I guess

I won't have shoes on the table - that's just hygiene

and I won't buy, and probably wouldn't ride, a white Triumph. I've only known of two, and both their owners came to a nasty end :(

the increased numbers of magpies is a huge problem cos they kill or scare off all the ikkle garden birds like sparrows n blue tits n robins

the reason why we have so many magpies all of a sudden is cos the govt made it illegal for farmers to shoot them

tis a problem wot needs sortin'

well went over fairy bridge today , waved and said hello to the fairies, and on the way back told them about Critch and Krammer making fun of them. so just wait if either of them come over , boy are they in trouble. :D can be evil little buggers if you cross them

oh and another one over here is, you cant say r.a.t , it either long tail , or big fella. and there is millions of they buggers over here, no wild enemies like foxes to control them.
there are a few things some of the manx do if you say r.a.t, they whistle, touch wood, and turn round.
