Hi yer, also like to mess around with the six string wonders of ear hole bashing, nothing elaborate so to speak, Epiphone Les paul copy which is pleanty good enough for me + Fender Tele acoustic which lives anywhere in the house [truth be, what ever room er in dor's decides to push me in and close the door] when me and Mr Fender are holding hands, anyway been thinking about a Banjo for a good few months now and have put a few squidie's away on the sly, having asked about different makes I'm leaning towards the Ozack range up to 350 squids, was told they are good value for that sort of money, not quite made me mind up on a 4 string or 5, be nice to know yer thoughts on that make + the choice of 4 or 5 string model.

:) :) ;)

Erm! So not to bore you wiv a long story I`d get a cheap Banjo one first! If ya play guitar ....erm..sorry im gettin mithered! Oooo! lost me train of thought! Get a cheap one then ya can learn it, but unless ya intend payin all yer time on it, ya can keep up yer guitar playin wi descent guitars. If ya really wanna get into banjos big style, then ya gotta go fer a descent one. :o Erm.. bet this is no help at all! :o

Hi mate,
The Ozark is a fair old instrument, but pound for pound there are better..... and there are lots more that you should consider... Dean make a good banjo, Hohner make the very good Countryman banjo, which even has a Remo head and retails for about £170, and Fender also make a superb 5 string for about £199.00 that's the best I have seen for sub £300/350....My advice..go for the 5 string..far more popular than the four string, and they certainly hold their price better.
Hope this helps....

Cheers Bassman, RM, the reason i asked lone-wolf, is the pic that was posted of him and and i don't know anybody who messes with the banjo, only started with the guitar a few years ago after an accident [not bike related] never gonna be a danger to the likes of Clapton and co but i enjoy me self but I'm not to sure about the peeps who live around me :D thanks for the advice guys it gives me a bit more to look at + the shops are just about selling and at the end of the day it's only the sale that matters to most of em, thanks again and I'll take a look on the net tomorrow at the makes yer said. :) :) ;)

Wotcha.

The banjo I use is a six string guitar banjo - which means if you can play guitar then you can play this. Like most 'middle range' instruments these days it's made in China, but with a Remo head ( which is supposedly a good thing ).
As for 4 or 5 strings - depends on what you wish to play.
4 string tenor banjo is used mainly in Irish type stuff.
5 string is used mainly for Bluegrass, finger picking type stuff.

If you're going to the 'do' this weekend I'll drag mine along and you can have a bash with it . . assuming of course, that I'll be there ( so far it's looking good ).
