As i live on an island i do not need an MOT!! ha ha ha but if i attempt to build a trike, does anyone know if i need the inspection, or can i just register it and insure it then ride it? :D :p ;)

As Orkney is part of GB, I'd have thought that vehicle registrations are the same as the rest of us.
In which case SVA would seem to be required.
How do you get a Tax Disc on Orkney, and what happens if you go visit the mainland, do you then require MOT?
Never knew that about the Orkneys (or any like Islands) regarding MOT. You learn something new everyday.

Orkney itself is classified as mainland, in which case all the usual rules apply. However I live on Flotta, which is not connected to a mainland by road, tunnel or bridge, which means exemption from mot, you take a declaration ( form V112) when you tax your vehicle. If you take your vehicle to the mainland then you require MOT. The main reason for this post is because i am thinking about a really weird trike consisting of a boat and whatever else has been left on my property  !!but it could be anything!!.....or nothing! P.S if any bikers are up this way then free camping is available. ;)

We've got the same thing up here and a number of the smaller islands do not need MOT. I know from past experience in Unst we just did what we wanted and nobody ever reported you for building weird things.Even the one local copper tended to look the other way. Beside we just used to put on a made up regestration or pinch the one from the donor vehicle.
Anyone that makes it to orkney can make it across to the land of the midnight sun (shetland) :)

if its weird i doubt itll pass an sva anyway,
so if its not properly registerd you technically wouldnt be able to insure it......
as for orkeny and shetland i have been to both, windy wet cold places but nice quiet roads, great for bikes as not many trees to hit!
id go with st lucia been thee too much better even has trees! :D

Technically mainland Britain is an island so I'm not going to MOT my vehicles anymore. Think of the money I'll save.

I like the sentiment but it is all to do with the mileage of road under acertain amount then no MOT needed. It is a tad restrictive if you want to go to the main shops but if you don't tell they will never know. No M6 cameras here, just one traffic warden who had to be imported in as no one wanted the job!
