How many of you read the bike tech pages? What do you think of it?
What would you like to see Chris cover in the next few issues.
tis the thing we like most in the mag :D
has he done things like
'starting tips'
'what to do if...'
'most likely problem if your bike is...'
etc
kinda stuff?
I used to have a flow chart for starting problems, was v useful cos it covered everything and ensured you hadn't missed anything
well I needed it cos the MG broke down every week in the winter brrrrr
so, like a troubleshooting guide for various things
maybe he's done that already though?
:p

no Doro this guy is quite new, only started when Dr Rod left but am getting feedback that folk like Chris's articles better, but we want to make sure that we are putting in the articles the sort of stuff folk want, so thought Id ask.
Thanks I'll mention it to him about starting probs/trouble shooting thingy.
Hopefully if I get some good suggestions on here, I'll email him and he'll cover those in coming months.... he's very clever you know
Next issue is all about going round corners... :D

To be honest Pat, Chris, in the couple of articles he's done already has covered stuff more relevant to me and Mrs R (F'kin GT Camchains for one!!) than Dr. Rod in all the time I've been reading the mag (only a couple of years now - had the post AWoL blinkers on when the mag first came out, if only I'd known?)... They seem to have done a swap - !00% is better than Classic Motorcycle Mechanics for techie stuff (shurely shome mishtake!!)
I would love to see something on forks though - after getting my fingers severly burnt by various dealers... Forkseals seem to be a black art to me for some reason!!!!

Eh??? I do remember getting the plastics thing, but not that one at all....

Okay..goes like this:
I did Madden's Norton. Then at Celtics' you asked for it to be done again on slide film. So I did half the slide film with Madden's Norton on and the other half with Ted's Triumph Chop on. Then I reworked Madden's Norton writeup , due to the fact that Steve Hislop had passed on since I did first draft ( I got a lot of sh*t off Wino for that!) and sent it all off to you with Ted's Chop writeup too.
I thought it strange why you used the old piccies for Madden's Norton and you left the referral to Steve Hislop in the "present tense".
Will have to take photos again and resubmit if you've L O S T I T !!!!!.

Hi, the interchangable parts would be well cool, many times i have fallen victim to urban myths about bits fitting other bikes, however this has only led to me making them fit, usually costing me money an a sh*t load of time,
Also stuff like bearing sizes (off the shelf from an engineers shop)that fit , maybe save ppl a bit of cash,
A little about changing wheel sizes an how it affects handling would be cool, many ppl i've known who have changed their wheels down to 17" an sh*t theirselves at the difference it makes,
how about seat making, using different mediums like metal, plastics an resins, also covering them?
An how about a detailed article into engraving techniques an equipment.
Cheers

Hi nitro
Can you not make the 13 wheel fit into the 1000 front end, they must be pretty similar?
crisp
21-11-2004, 11:37 AM
the trouble is with interchangeable parts is most thing will fit but you have to have an ounce of tech ability to do it
so it is a bit of a catch 22
due to bikes generally being similar lengths and widths the most bits will, after some jiggery pokery, fit
once you have set off down the custom road you are unfortunately very much on your own find a good/helpful engineering shop and the rest is relatively easy
dozer
21-11-2004, 04:31 PM
It would be good to maybe start a database on this site somwhere about interchangeable parts that fit without mods,
then maybe have a rating or summat to confifm that it works, i know i could contribute a lot, as i'm sure others could.
or maybe with mods, but detailing specs like new spacer sizes, etc, ???
You're right crisp, it's a long road when your customising, but if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

I think the standard of the techie articles has gone up since Chris took over, no disrespect to Dr. Rod. Its fine to do an article on a subject and you can use photos of a particular bike but make the article applicable to all.
I think some appropriate subjects might include:

Servicing a pair of forks
Testing and replacing coils, HT leads and ignition system (incl. using aftermarket)

How about summat to do with the older bikes? ya know the GS's, XS's the seventies and eighties bikes? Like who still does what parts and after market stuff for em. Could really use a couple of cams for my GS750 but can't find any. Is Dunstall, Yoshimura and the like still making things for them? Maybe in that vein summat for tall the Brit iron still around. I know you can find some of thie through Classic Bike and it ilk, but they're not my fav mag, you are!

What I think would be brill is a chop wiring article.Nowt fancy old school wiring, perhaps progressing to using relays for twin lights/horns and ig switches etc..Pretty please with sugar on top! :D
Agreed. Recently figured out relay wiring for headlights, am now considering relay for ignition...............and a mad notion of making up a wiring harness from scratch in the future as this stock one is 20 years old. These sort of electrical articles would be great.
