Yep,but give the Shermans their due, they did do a good job.Did you know there was a supersonic version of the P1127 (Harrier predecessor) on the drawing board but the Govt cancelled it?

They cancelled the TSR2 and nearly bought the F1-11 instead an' all..... :(

We didn't buy the F111,but it still cost us an arm and a leg.Crab Air ended up with the Buccaneer,an aircraft they didn't want but grew to love.Even the Yanks said it was the best low-level strike and interdiction aircraft ever built.
Had the TSR2 not been cancelled it would have been 20-30 years ahead of its time. The story of British aviation,eh?

The Buccaneer was a cracking aircraft and regularly flummoxed the septics at their Red Flag training excercises. :D

editted my last post as you where posting yours, cos I'm fik.....

And they couldn't stop the Vulcans at high OR low level...... :D

Grav

The Vulcan is quite possibly the most beautiful aircraft we have ever built, IMHO. :)

Whilst on holiday in Rhyl when I was a kid, one flew over the beach at seriously low level and was a sight to behold. :)

Ohhhh yeah!Once saw one blast over Broadford Youth Hostel in Skye at about 400 feet and 400 knots.Scared the crap out the tourists! :D
When I was a kid my ol' fella used to take me to the Leuchars air shows and the Vulcan was always the highlight of my day.Full throttle take off, that howling roar you'd FEEL more than hear.Happy days!

Hmmm The Avro Vulcan, wot a plane...

Interestingly enough there aint any flying examples left anywhere in the world, a travesty IMO.
This will soon be rectified as Vulcan XH558 has been purchased "For the nation" and is being restored to full flight status at its home at Bruntingthorpe airfield by Marshall Aerospace of Cambridge, its hoped it will be flying again THIS YEAR!! Cant wait to see that :)

Check out the link for more info

And as regards TSR2 (Still one of the best looking aircraft ever IMO) There exists but two examples, although long since stripped of all avionics the fusilage is complete and you can have a butchers at what all the fuss was about. RAF Duxford, Nr Cambridge. and RAF Cosford Well worth a day out.

Brooklands has several parts from TSR2 as well including a nose section and engine.

Pete (Also plane spotting anorack type lol)

There's a little Aviation museum Just out side Norwich at Horsham St. Faith.

They have a vulcan there, and you can go and sit in the cockpit!

And go

"Tally ho Chaps! Chocks away"

And

"Dakadakadakadaka!"

And

"Left a bit! Right a bit! Bombs gone!"

Ahem!

My dad gave me strange looks!

And that was two years ago!

There's a Vulcan at East Fortune Museum of Flight east of Embra,it was one of the aircraft from the "Black Buck" missions in the Falklands. They've also got a Blue Steel standoff missile and a Blue Streak rocket not to mention a Lighting F2A!Clickety-click (http://www.nms.ac.uk/flight/home/index.asp) for their site.
There's also a wee motor museum nearby worth a visit, and here's (http://www.aberlady.org/Myreton.html) the link for that. They have some nice stuff there including a good few bikes.Watch the carpark though,it's gravel! :(
