I was browsing the 'Times Educational Suppliment' and came across this.
It's worth reading all the way through. Teachers on the sex offenders list are only the tip of a very big iceberg

It's a long read but should interest any parent. It turns out that many schools have pupils who are on the register but the schools do not broadcast the fact to protect those pupils rights.

Debate please?

Not a shock that it happens, but from that thread, it seems to be on a larger scale than I imagined.

I went to school with one. No teachers said anything about it, but the scum thought it would be great to brag about it. Needless to say he got his head kicked in on a regular basis. As far as I know the next school wasn't told about what he had done, as it happened there as well. He never went to court for these things.

The funny thing is, I got suspended several times for giving him a kicking, while he walked round without supervision. The suspensions didn't bother me (Had many by that time, with many more to come), but what he did bother me.

Not good reading at all, makes you wonder.
And people wonder why all three of my kids ( from 6-13) do kickboxing.

Its obvious that you cant trust the government/education authorithy too look after out children so it is our responsibilty to make sure the children can look after themselves when we are not with them.

Sadly child abusers are often someone the child already knows, and a relationship of trust is built up before the abuse starts :(

Scary thought sadly seems to be getting more the "norm" these days, and if the kids protect themselves their the ones that get suspended from school for being violent

I found out recently that where I went to school, there was a case of a coach driver on one of the trips abusing one of the kids. the school was told and promised to deal with it.

It then came to light that he had abused 3 other girls from my school in the past (got one pregnant and she moved to wales to escape him). The school knew about all of these instances but didnt do anything untill the police were involved.

Personally Id rather my kids kicked the crap out of someone that was a threat to them and get suspended that risk being put in \DANGER

It is my opinion that anyone who is a risk to children for sexual or other reasons (even another child) should not be in a position where they have unsupervised access to children.

Thats just common sense. But like they say, the trouble with common sense is that its not very common!

as sad as this all is, its sadder still that whilst the media loves to whip up the "stranger danger" stories about child abuse, the vast vast vast majority of abusers of children both physical and sexual are relatives and friends of that child and its family, what a fucking world we live in eh!

The sad thing to me is that the media whipped up a frenzy about Teachers on the SO register when it appears that over 90% of sexual assaults associated with schools are by the pupils themselves and the majority are covered up so as to protect the culprits rights and the schools good (sic) name.

Where are all the'hang em high brigade' and the 'protect our children at all costs' now? Their enthusiasm probably died with the whale in the thames when it killed the Kelly story.

The Tabloids have a lot to answer for.

I stand by what I have said before on this subject all child abusers, and I mean all, should be segregated from society permanently. Read into permanently what ever you wish isolation or removal from this planet.

well at the risk of opening a huuuuuge can of worms, if you had a 16 year old son, and he had a 15 year old girlfriend, then would you call him a sex offender, even if they had consensual sex, would you lock him up forever with garry glitter and steven huntley et al? if so, why, if not why not? . this is technically possible, and has actually happened in a few cases, where teenagrs have forever been branded sex offenders because their girlfriends age has fallen on the wrong side of the date line. i would be interested to know if any 16 year old girls with 15 year old boyfriends have been put on the register tho.
im not after a slanging match mind, just oppinions as to where you would draw the line, obviously, some of the freaks out there deserve more than just being locked up, but these more marginal cases are the ones where someones life could be realy screwed up cos their girlfriends mum and dad dont get on with them.

serious reply here.....

A long time ago when I was about 18 I was a regular in a pub in glasgow where the dope trade outdone the bar sales and there was a really pretty girl who had been drinking there for months that I had my eye on...But like most 18 year olds I thought i didnt have a chance, so I just lusted after her from a distance.
To cut a long story short I "nipped" her at a party and was in one of the bedrooms playing "stinky finger" with her....before we got down to the nitty gritty she asked me to get her a beer from another room and I was told by someone to watch what I was doing as she was underage.....When I said she'd been a regular of the pub for months and he must be mistaken, He told me she was in his youger sisters class at SCHOOL....turned out she was only 14....

I made a sharp exit.....I'd have sworn blind that she was at least 18.....Still have the horrors thinking back on it....I could have been done for statutary rape FFS..locked up with the nonces, with a beating waiting for me at every step

Its amazing what a bit of lippy and some warpaint can do for a girl...
lets all be carefull out there..

(still shuddering )
