View Full Version : MOT Law Change - Indicators for "Q" Plates
Not sure whather my MOT examiner is a moron or is correct and the MOT law has recently changed. Either way it's totally p*ssed me off...
I have ridden a Q-Plate Z1100 chop/custom for the past 6 years which has never failed on MOT. Earlier this morning I took it to a different MOT garage (just having moved to North London / South Herts area) and the bike was failed for not having indicators fitted...
He reckons that it's an amendment to the MOT law brought in very recently. Does anyone know about this at all (have I been asleep for the past 12 minths?!) or is the examiner a tw*t???

Jef just spoke to the MOT tester in the shop where i participate as the oily rag and we cannot find nothing about this in the book at the moment, not saying that he is wrong but we cain't find nothing stating this amendment, anyway if you cannot get sorted let me know and if you don't mind coming to us in essex we can help you out, just over an hour from you if you are in north london. :D ;)
What exhausts ;) ;)

hi the guy is a tw*t i have been a tester for the past 10 years on cars and bikes and since yours is a q plate it don't need indicators.he may be confused with the last update about quads and trikes but the last update on bikes was about number plates and exhausts (NO LONGER NEED BS193 MARK)BUT IT MUST NOT SAY FOR RACE USE OR OTHER WORDS THAT MEEN THE SAME so you can have a can with no marks and it should pass hope this helps if not you can do a apeal agaist the tester and watch him get shafted by v.o.s.a .
i would go back and ask for a form vt17 this should scare him as this is the form you use to appeal (if you do appeal do not repair the bike take it as it was on day of test)
hope this helps CAPTAINCONDOM (WOZ WOLF R.C)

I could stand to be corrected here but did'nt they stop making the Z1100 late 85 early 86 if so it should be exempt...??? if manufactured and used befor Aug 1st 86. ;)
Looks like the guy above me has got it in a nut shell.

See if this link works.

As clear as mud!!!!!
If direction indicators are fitted they must meet the requirements of this inspection, but need not be fitted to a machine which:
. cannot exceed 30mph / 50kph, or
. was first used before 1 August 1986, or
10. Q' plate registered vehicles
Q' plate registration is issued if the machine is of 'indeterminate age'. For MOT Testing purposes assume the machine to have been first used on Ist January 1971.
therefore ok....
