knew that I recognised that jim ord name somewhere :), malic in wonderland was the inspiration for me to do the design of exhaust that Im doing on my current chop
beleive I saw it at one of the Vange bike do's
anyway I beleive that my quest is over, 5.5 inch wide rim, 16" 60 spoke £210
BUT is 5.5" ok for a 200 tyre??, dont fully understand tyre sizes, but my logic says that 5.5" is only 140mm??
although my logic obviuosly dont work as my current rear wheel is 4.25" and shod with a 150 tyre DOH

A tyre like the Bridgestone BT020 200/60VR16 which is for "Cruisers" and fitted to the Vulcan VN2000 has an approved rim size of 5.50-6.25 so would be ok for your 5.50 rim, it is only V rated (up to 149mph) not Z rated (149mph+) which is the highest speed rating, i guess they don't think to many cruisers are going to be doing in excess of 149mph, funny that!
As your using a spoked rim obviously you need a to use a inner tube but you should not fit tubes in radial bike tires or fit radial tires on rims requiring tubes, unless it is specified by the tire manufacturer.
ACTUALLY I JUST NOTICED THAT THE Bridgestone BT020 200/60VR16 IS A RADIAL SO YOU CAN'T USE IT WITH A TUBE!!!
I will have another look as you can't use a radial with a spoked rim:rolleyes:
There's some size charts and useful info on this site @

I been using a tube in a radial tyre for years (Bike came like that new) with no trouble. Biggest problem is radials are harder to get on and off and some but not all have rough interiors that are not suitable for use with tubes but you can tell by looking inside.

beleive that all the BMW rims were like it, they spoked to the outside of the rim??
ringing back this morning to confirm everything and order it, just need to make sure that as it runs tubeless tyres, its constructed the same way as normal wheels, need to tear it apart and powdercoat the rim for final build

So if this rim can run tubeless tyres then what i said about tyre/rim sizes is ok, that is a tyre like the Bridgestone BT020 200/60VR16 which is a radial and has a approved rim size of 5.50-6.25 would be ok for your 5.50 rim, don't know how much they cost though!!!

all ordered, wheel was £210, metzeler tyre was £120
money well spent in my opinion, also nice and easy to use standard 530 harley sprockets, wheich are also nicely available in 3 offsets!! :)
just got to sort the brake out for the the rear now, my jap system probably wont wont to fit :(
