It's often easier to have them bolted in the yokes and on the bike then when there on full lock you can use a feckin gurt piece of tube on the end of a socket bar and swing on it.

Once you get the top nut moving watch yerself, when you get to the end of the thread the spring pressure'll try and make it ping off, with hilarious, sorry, possibly painful results.Been there, had that.

You mean the plastic/rubber ones on the sliders?Yes,but use a wee bit caution.

yes that's the ones, they sit on the top of the lower leg, mine look as if they have been glued in place and the plastic around it is starting to disintegrate and the metal innards are showing.......................think they will need replacing............................thanks for your help guys but had to cancel mot as no way will I get these seals done and the exhausts quietened before tomorrow..................the oil that came out of the forks was black and nearly as thick as treacle........................

If the bottom allen screw is spinning , Slide something inside the leg to wedge the piston. I can't remember what size nut fits it but if you can find a large enough bolt, weld it to a bit of pipe and that will do the job.

Try a 17mm bolt head its worked for me on XS & gpz/ gt forks,
Jim.
