The National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) will be doing a presentation at the Manchester Motorcycle Show this weekend to celebrate gaining their 5,000th member.
A 53 year old mechanic from North Staffordshire who suffered a left leg amputation following a motorcycle accident in 1985 is to receive a framed certificate to mark his enrolment as NABD membership number 5,000.
NABD Chairman Rick Hulse said “We are very proud to now have 5,000 members and as the organisers of the Manchester Motorcycle Show have been staunch supporters of the NABD since our inception in 1991 we could have no better place to mark this significant milestone in the history of our association”.
THE NABD is a unique registered charity dedicated to helping disabled people to enjoy the freedom and independence of motorcycling. Financial grants made by the NABD are used to adapt motorcycles and motor-tricycles to suit the needs of disabled riders.
The NABD is a national charity with its base in Manchester and a network of representatives throughout the UK. It is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and is generally accepted as the leading disabled motorcyclists group in the world. They are regularly consulted by authorities such as the Driving Standards Authority (DSA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) on all matters relating to disabled motorcyclists.
Over the past fifteen years the NABD have helped thousands of disabled people in the UK & Eire with grants, design of special adaptions, licensing and legal advice, and support. In addition to this they have over recent years inspired and supported similar groups to set-up in Norway, Sweden, France and Japan.
The presentation will take place at 11:30am on Friday January 6th the main stage at the Manchester G-Mex.
