just had a similar thing happen to me, my tooth broke xmas day whilst eating dinner leaving the filling exposed, so 9am this morning I`m Queued at the door of the dentists asking for an appointment PDQ along with several other peeps, luckily I got an appointment at 11:45 so I got it sorted.
I`m not saying its difficult to get an appointment at short notice, but I`ve found from experience that turning up on the door, rather than phoning usually get me sorted.
I`ve even booked my annual check up appointment, and thats not till April 2006

Just got back from the Dentist, I thought he was going to say he will make me a new crown for the tooth.
No such luck he said the tooth was knackered and would have to come out :o he asked me if I wanted to leave it for a while, or did I want him to take it out there and then, so I said go ahead take it out :o his first attempt snapped the tooth, then he tried again and broke it again, he tried once more with the same result, after that he drilled it and eventualy he got it all out.
I now have the right side of my face swollen like a balloon and the anesthetic has worn off, I feel like I have been kicked by a mule.
I cant have any fluid for at least 6 hours
He has put me on a course of antibiotics, and I have just taken 2 dehydrocodien.
What a lovely way to start the new year :(

I had an abscess thing two years ago on Christmas eve and the dentist just numbed it and drained it, all was fine and he even gave me antibiotics just incase. Top man, top Christmas.
Had the same thing happen this year just afore crimble and all i got was the the antibiotics this time. (had to lance it and drain it myself) not the nicest thing in the world but the relief was good.
This is probably because of the changes being introduced in the NHS dental service, or should that be lack of service????? Watch just how little time your dentist spends with as an NHS patient after the Spring, New contracts!!!!!
He/She aint gonna want to spend his/her hard earned on an ordinary NHS waller like me an thee. But just see what happens if you say you'll go private?

i had one like that and my teeth are deep rooted so they ended up grinding some of me jaw bone away to remove the tooth, face was swollen for 2 months, i hate the dentist but we have one who will give you an anastetic and knock you out cold for an extra £50,so if i go now i just say put me out and remove the tooth ,cheapest way to do it :)
