Just spent an hour or so getting really confused (nothing new there then I hear you cry), wondering why my new forks wouldn't go into the top yokes - I was really panicking, thinking that they were wrong after all this time (they came off the Spectre, which is the american GT750) and that breakers were thieving lying scum etc. etc. - OK, for the most part they are ... but not this time).

I'd already checked with Cradley Kawasaki who said that the bottom yokes were identical and according to the Haynes book of lies, the stearing stem on the GT and the Spectre (KZ750N1) were the same apart from being able to use proper bars on the Spectre by way of the different top yoke.

Up until now, I'd been avoiding the thought of taking out the steering stem as I wanted to get the bike up and running ASAP, naively thinking that even after a front end smash, the yokes would be OK (just shows what I know!!). In the end I decided to take the plunge, undoing the stearing head nuts and letting the stem and yoke drop out. Only then I saw how flamin' bent the steering stem was!!!!!! not only was it bent back, it was also twisted sideways!

I got Mrs R to check this bit out as I thought her knowledge of anatomy would come in handy :D

I'm soooooo glad that I decided to buy both top and bottom yoke when I had chance - here's me thinking I wouldn't need those headrace bearings after all!!! :D

Anyone got a blowtorch?
