I have a BMWR80RT that im thinking of trikeing, i dont know if anyone is aware of this but the whole back end of the bike is removeable, just leaving the engine with the frame around it. So i was thinking of haveing a removeable trike back end. Now then how do i stand with registration, tax class and number plate msva etc, and is is safe to have a bolt on back end due to the forces involved, although part of the bolt on will be on the swinging arm pivot. mr windrush over too you .

The only way you can have three wheels without undergoing an MSVA is to fit a sidecar.
Even if the trike rear end is bolt on you'd still need to register it as a tricycle.
Basically the rule is that if a vehicle changes taxation class then it is supposed to be tested (even though the tax for an under 450 kg trike is the same a a solo bike)
