Wont be rushing out there again...
Waited to be served at the bar...served French but left me...
Asked for a ashtray...froggy said no...so i just flicked ash on carpet...and as for the bogs...what the f**k are they all about?
Wont be going again...
and to cap it all spent the weekend with future mother in law.... :(

Do you speak French?
You git... that was MY next question :D
I only asked cos the French I have met have all been rather nice - however, I speak a little bit of French so they generally appreciate it if you make an effort y'see. Same with most other countries I have been to.

Same here, not the best french speaker in the world but I always have a go.
Never found the French anything other then helpful and polite... unless I'm frowning and talking English.

the brummies in my village are told they get more respect if try and speak a little welsh.
they don't really, but it is funny listening to them, well it's quiet here in winter and you have to take your pleasure where you can find it :D

Also, just talk louder and mention we bailed them out in the war. They soon come round.
Had an argument with my old fella yesterday - he says that the North Welsh are all ignorant w@nkers who will speak Welsh as soon as an English person walks into the room. I said he should learn a little Welsh.
Although, as we own Wales, I suppose they should be forced to speak English.

Hahahahahaha! When we were kids growing up in Y Drenewydd we were always getting people askin us directions to say Dolgellau. Well you could see they couldnt be arsed to pronounce it right and didnt care and were usually patronising fuckers. With our directions i'd say a lot ended up in probably Lampeter or summat like just to piss em off.
As far as France, well ive never met anything but friendly people there and all i can say is Merci. One of the best nights ever was in a a little village in the Somme area with a load of french who couldnt speak English and me not being able to speak french. We were exchanging smokes, beers and wines and got very pissed and had hysterics. It was so good that the locals actually came out to say goodbye the next day when we left, hugs, kisses the whole bloody lot. Not saying you had an attitude Ninja, just saying that it really does pay to be friendly and take an interest. Ha, even had a lock in in a bar in in a town in the Somme area. Caused grief with the missus though cause when she'd got back to the bar to see where i was all the shutters were down. I was inside with a load of locals talking about Rugby :D

As Wales is where the English retreated to after the roman invasion and Welsh is an older language that belongs to this fair isle more than a bastardised italian i think we should all speak cymraeg.
Wales was England and vice versa, we should celebrate our unity instead of having a pissing contest. Withut either we would be nothing (Ha, were heading that way anyway i suppose).
Years ago I lived in a little village in the Ardeche, didn't speak much English (at least when I first got there) and I found that the people were both kind and welcoming, even when we had to resort to sign language to communicate - my French improved rapidly! Like Rob says, a lot of it is a matter of attitude.

I can speak a little French, and not all French were "knobs"..but found the majority of younger french peeps really ignorant!
Went to Turkey this year, not being able to speak their lingo but found them a whole lot more helpful and willing to go out their way to please...also Turks seem to try more and be better at speaking english than french...

Sorry, but I've got to agree with Ninjagal. My one and only experience of France was a bad one. I did get an O level in French and brushed up a bit before I went, made the effort and still found them to be rude and pretty unhelpful.

Perhaps it's relative to where ya live
This Town is full of very rude, unhelpful shop keepers and weekend 'locals'.
To me the French seemed like a breath of fresh air.

ditto, I love France and have found the French to be some of the most pleasant pople I have ever met. My honeymoon was spent in a tiny village in Provence surrounded by vineyards ... the only problem I had was when photography a bank holiday service at a church and being told it was actually a funeral for a local  *LOL
I agree with Abb that if you make an effort with the language generally people are cool.

Only ever been to Paris, but in the 4 mebbe 5 times we've been we've only ever had a problem once, that was with a waiter who was a sh!tbag, but you get sh!tbag waiters everywhere. My French is practically non existant,I can ask for beer (there's a surprise!),ask for something off a menu, where's the bog, where's the metro, that kinda thing. But I make a point of trying to speak a wee bit French and be polite and it works wonders. We know a wee taverne in Montmartre with good, cheap food and we're made very welcome every time we visit.Fun watching the Yanks get pissed about tho'....... :D

Well now, France.
Ignorant fux even if you try the lingo.
Brittany, west coast. Everywheres bloody shut. All the time.
Weather, beautiful in the south, bad english winters day in the north, fantastic thunderstorms and spectacular lightning shows in the central parts.
But also very wet. In the summer. When ur wearing next to f'kall heading for hotter sun in spain.
The south of france is to die for and the people down that way are very different to the northerners. Bit like here. The roads are perfect for riding, especially for Andora.
Germany. Lived there for ages. RAF Laarbruch, Kleve, Hamm, Osnabruch.
Arrogant race but no real hassle. Best riding experience, go to calais, head southeast to switzerland and go north along the Mosel river. Wine growing regions all the way, picture postcard views all the way, checkout the village of Monschau, Siegfried line, Berncastle, Cochem, Koln. Join the Rhine and keep going north. End trip in Amsterdam. Annnd...............
Relax.

In general New Zealanders are the friendliest folk I've ever met, although parts of Auckland and Poverty Bay can be a bit hairy with the Polynesian gangs.See 'Once Were Warriors' or 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted' for an insight.

Not just those blokes,in Auckland you've got Maori gangs,Fijian,Tongan,Samoan........
Jonah Lomu's uncle (or cousin) got hacked to death in the street by another Islander gang.
We were in Gisbourne on the East Cape, the nearest pub to the campsite we were staying at had a list by the front door,"No gang colours, leathers, face tattoos,guns,knives,machetes.........."
We didn't go in.
In general though,as I said earlier, the Kiwis are immensely friendly, and it's probably a hell of lot safer there than here.Just watch out for matt black Holden V8s! :D

There's a crackin' pub in Christchurch called the Holy Grail
http://www.holygrail.co.nz/default.aspx
It has the biggest telly screen I've ever seen and a grandstand!.It's where the Crusaders fans go when the team's playing away. There're tellies in the toilets so ye don't miss a minute of the game, and at the front door there's a sports shop on one side and a bookies on the other.
