Thats probably why the 24 hour drinking has been introduced. Brilliant timing by the powers that be...!!!!
The goverment revenue on the booze will stay about the same as we can all make up for him.... :D
On a more serious note it is a shame he ended up in such a sorry state. He must have been desperatley unhappy inside as a person to have relied on the booze to get him through life.
Just goes to show that money and the high life dont always make you happy.
Mind you it will create a problem.......who on earth will all those pretty blonde busty women sleep with now?????
Any offers.... :D

There's far worse people in this world you could have wished that upon.

never wished him dead, i think he didnt need any help in that department, very sad for his family and friends, but ultimately, an inevitable end for a guy who had more than his fair share of second chances. he wanted to be remembered for his football, fair enough i never saw him play, but im told he was a genius, and as i wouldnt knoww a good footballer from a bad one, i wont comment. how long till someone in the media suggests a national minutes silence for him then?

I don't think any would "wish" him dead. It's more of a "why the hell give him column inches in the press for stupidity?"
He may have been a good footballer, but he and his "close" mates were much better idiots. Call it a disease, pressure of public life or whatever you want.
Bottom line, he could have stopped it and been around for a lot longer yet.
Poke yourself in the eye, you find it hurts. So why keep doing it?

I hope not. Wouldn't be right. His time was many years ago now. Only ever saw him play on tv an' I havn't really watched football much since my teens, but I do remember him bein' somethin' special as were many players in his day but he had a special charisma in the same way as did Barry Sheene that stood them both apart from their contemparies.
As to my other comment about folks wishin' him dead, well that's to be expected. I'm not suprised, just saddened.
I was more angry at the way he treated himself in a way. He was a brilliant footballer and could have done much more with his life and skills afterwards
I will say a prayer for him in my own way

I never wished him dead, he had his own death wish and he has carried it out, i find it more amazing that with all the secound chances he had...he wasted them and now he will not be known as george best the footballer, but george best the drunkard who throw it all away.
a bit like oliver reed, acting was class, but he will always be remembered for be a piss head

Ive never liked footie so he did nowt for me. I didnt find him funny or clever. I didnt wish him dead but couldnt give a S hit if he is. I sat for 3 bloody weeks in hospital with me Dad nearly dying and when i wasnt in there all i heard about was poor old George fuckin Best. Me Dads still on the Danger list as are many other fathers, sons, mothers, daughters etc etc, many needing organs donated to them but they'll be lucky if they get it yet people have made a hero of a prick that squandered some poor fuckers organs. There are old veterans (my Dad for one) that actually did summat for this country apart from kick a bag of wind around and theyre dying cause they cant afford heating, food, organs never mind endless binges on someone else bloody organs.
FUCK GEORGE BEST and all the media hype to, im sick to the back teeth of it. Celebrate people that matter like our veterans, our doctors, nurses, police, firemen so on so forth. Not some piss swilling twat.

It's wrong (IMO) that he got a second chance in the first place. I was surprised when the GF agreed with me. Her dad's an alky, and although she loves him, she wouldn't want a liver or such to go to waste on her own father. She doesn't hate george best, she just thinks it was a waste of an organ that cold have helped someone who would grab that second chance and run with it, not piss it up the wall.

Now the doctors who were wasting their time with him can now help someone who desrves the help, and won't fuck up for a second time.Like this little girl:

...........
don't we ALL do things every day of our lives that could mean the same?
I don't particularly agree with all the coverage (no disrespest intended) that George Best's death is getting, although, him just being George Best is inevitable that the coverage IS going to happen..............BUT............ a M'BORO fan was killed last night after the match, and all he has got to my knowledge is a bit of text..................so where and how do we draw the line..................George Best and this unknown" footie fan have died...............both could maybe have avoided it, who are we to judge?
surely we have to give a bit of respect to these people and thier families and friends.............I know that I do!
no decent person deserves to die, it's a sad fact of life that this does happen, but don't we ALL deserve treatment on OUR NHS?

Any form of addiction is an illness. Some are immune, some suffer, some succumb.
The reason George Best gets so much coverage is for the skill he had in his profession. His rise to fame and subsequent fall from grace would never have been known if he had just been an average player.
As arguably the first footballer to become a tabloid pin-up boy, the tabloids possibly for the first time saw the benefits of tearing to pieces the image they had built up.
RIP George Best.
Cheers,
Byrnie.

a self-inflicted illness nevertheless......
I still think the organs shouldn't be given to such people when many more without self-inflicted illnesses need them........
I smoke so I won't be surprised to pay more for health insurance - nor will I quibble if I need a lung transplant and get told I'm bottom of the list!

a self-inflicted illness nevertheless......
Two people go out drinking anything and everything, week in, week out. One cuts down, the other finds he can't. Despite doctors warnings, family and friends begging him, he carries on, even whilst admitting he's killing himself.
If the drinking is the illness, surely the other person would be in the same state.
The addiction is the illness, not the alcohol.

As for the M,bro fan, only a few people knew him, as for George Best a lot of people knew him, he was in the media when he was young and virile and a good cause for people to buy a newspaper, he shouldn't be slated for what's happened.

Except for when he was beating up his wife perhaps.
Anyway, as this debate seems to be running on all over the country
with no real answers I've come up with something suitable for his headstone, simply
"Best in the Land"
That should keep everyone happy.

I agree but this isn't about "beating his wife up" it's about his alcoholism and organ transplants and "deserving" to die,
Now if we want to go on the subject of "wife beating" I have been on the recieving end of the worst kind of domestic violence, and I still think if he knew any better he wouldn't have done it, ....................didn't make we wanna stay with him though LOL, THE FECKIN BASTARD pmsl.......... :) ;)

of course the addiction is the illness - but it is still self-inflicted
everyone knows that tobacco, alcohol, drugs etc are addictive AND bad for your health
so if they indulge despite that knowledge - any resulting illness is self-inflicted
it's not as if anyone forced him to drink
I don't have a problem with him or his drinking - my problem is with the doctors who gave him a liver when they knew he was an incurable alcoholic
and I'm not glad he's dead
I wish he was still alive and looking after his donor liver and showing respect to the family of the dead person who donated it.........

He enjoyed his life to the full an I bet he do it all over again but it was his choice.... I'l raise a glass to a football genius cause we aint gonna see any characters in football or any other sports as it is all money these days.

He was only 26 when he left United. The champagne lifestyle started when he was in his teens. The health warnings associated with that were virtually non-existant at the time.

He wasnt the worlds best footie player, (Pele) just the best Northern Ireland had at the time.
He quit footie in his mid 20`s to persue `other` avenues none of which worked so he returned to football and signed for a number of smaller clubs but never made it back.
Come on, I`m not a great fan of football and all its money but like it or not we got bigger stars now with the likes of Beckham, this guy got so much pressure, this guy had the Country booing him in one world cup then comming back and saving the Nation in the next.
He didnt turn to drink, he didnt think he was some kind of playboy, he accepted critisism, learned by it and came back a better man.
At the very least Best had a gift that many young footy wannabies would kill for and all he done was abuse it.
I`m not even English (gosh, unlucky me) but I got more respect for the Beckhams of the day.
I`m pretty sure if George had his chance all over again he would change many things
But thats just my opinion.

Pele was quoted as saying that "George Best was the greatest player in the world" but that could be modesty from his behalf.
As for mr Beckham he is a good player but aint got the charisma an skill of the drunken irish genius !
well, at last his family are out of thier misery of watching him suffer such an indignant end. Aint into footie, but he threw away the chance of a better life. At least his son Calum dont have the embarrasement of his behaviour any more. I give sympathy to his family, but will shed no tears over his wasted life. I do hope he rests in peace.
Lets hope the next liver available goes to someone who deserves it more than he did eh?

used to work for UK transplant, organs are offered out on a good tissue type match first and then so on down the line, so I am afraid it isn't based on who is most deserving, although private hospitals and clinics can purchase them but they do need to have a good tissue match or they risk an even greater chance of being rejected by the body.
