i need to get an ac motor to run in the oposite direction do i just swop the live and neutral connections and also move the capacitor connections as well or is there more to it :confused:

That would work with a DC motor but I don't think AC: they have (or used to have) built in rectifiers that chop the AC into a DC feed to the motor: It should block any current which tries to flow in the opposite direction. Reversing AC motors are specialist bits of kit, like some of the ones for trains, and more often than not they just use reversiing gearboxes.

I think you'd need to strip out the rectifier (if it can be removed) and put a switchable forward and reverse thyristor or diode "bridge" rectifying circuits. Been a while since I played with that sort of thing so open to be corrected.
