MAG Press Release:

Farmyard Party High and Dry for 2006

Issued 16th November 2005

MAG's giant Farmyard Party is back for 2006 on a new flood-free site following this year's near catastrophe when the valley flooded on the Sunday night due to torrential rain in North Yorkshire.

The new site is still in the grounds of the fabulous Duncombe Park Estate but much higher up. Organiser Pete Walker said, "Though a second massive flood on the same weekend at the same spot would be a chance in a million, we just couldn't risk it and a lot patrons of the premier event had expressed fears of a repetition."

All the usual attractions will be on the new site and those who wish to take a stroll down in the valley will be able to, there just wont be camping there.

MAG's Farmyard Party is the group's biggest fund raiser of the year and has grown from small beginnings to enjoy a unique status as a giant rally which has managed to retain the cosy familiarity of a small one.

Unlimited individual campfires will still help cultivate the atmosphere with truckloads of timber shipped in for the purpose. The Farmyard is not so much a show as a small nation established for one weekend in the Yorkshire hills.

Varied musical tastes are catered for with a main rock stage, blues tent, traditional rally tent and dance tent, plus comedians, a bike show, and a village of traders. The kaleidoscope of images against a background of wood smoke-scented air make the Farmyard a unique all bike weekend camping experience.

While almost every rally goer had left the valley site before the rain started this year, many marshals lost all their on site possessions in the flood and Pete Walker would like to thank all those who helped with the appeal which was launched to reimburse them. He promised 2006 will be the biggest and best Farmyard ever; so long as we don't have an earthquake

Well thanks for all you understanding and encouragement in what has been a difficult decision. We feel this is the best alternative to the dale, this is due to the fact that we cant use the dale and the other option is a show field.
We have looked at approximately 25 other sites and non of them could give the event all the things that I believe make the event IE fires, late music, close to the coast etc. We are in the process of laying out site plans and talking to the council regarding licences.
the good people of Helmsleywantus back but not all of them so we still have to tread on eggs during the planning. The question was asked regarding the entrance to the site. This has already been discussed but not decided upon as yet. The four interested parties, us, police, residents and the council will meet soon to decide how its going to be. We want access and egress to be via the top entrance, but the residents don't want this due to the fact that there will be twice as much traffic going past there homes. The police want a one way system in operation and the council who decide what we will do are thinking about it. So you may have to come in via nelson gate (same as usual) down the bumpy road over the bridge, up the hill and then through a mystical path in the woods (full of fairy's, goblins and elves) I don't want to go to far into this as the view when you reach the gate will be spectacular and hopefully if all goes to plan breath taking.
Again thanks for all your support in the last 5 months in what has been an up hill struggle to say the least.
Pete

Why are you making Dave Elfrick hide in the woods

And the thoughts of Pete cavorting about with fairies makes me shudder, he might enjoy it too much. :p

Erm... one question.
(Mitch sticking his head over the parapet again...:D)
When is the Farmyard next year?

Also, does this mean we can do the Dave Elrick Challenge?

Went to the Farmyard this year and loved it, (not the aftermath)!!
I'll be a resident of sunny Australia by the time Farmyard '06 comes around so won't be able to make it!!!
Good luck to MAG and everyone involved in the '06 Rally!!
Cheers.
