The bugger did his best to try and kill me yesterday, both using the weather, other road users and my bike all conspiring to sop me from getting home. It's a long story so if you are sittng comfortably I'll begin
Made it to Bunbags in Edinburgh no problem although a liitle wet. Cheers m8 for putting me up, feeding me and drying the leathers.
Left edinburgh got to perth fairly uneventful got new gloves as soaked through again. Left perth rain was bouncing of the road, wind had picked up doing 80 I pass a bus. Said bus pulls into me just as engine cuts out and I lose all power. some how managed to make it to side of road. Bike has spark but no fire (rain stil P1ssing down) 2nd pair of gloves soaked through and cannot feel fingers. 45mins later breakdown arrives and take me to dundee.
Things look up Skinners m/cs and the lads there feed me coffee and set about stripping the bike. carbs fine no water spark plugs fine. in a last ditch attempt to get the bike going we start to disconnect all the hoses suddenly ther is life, reconnect hose the bugger dies agian, problem solved exhaust emmissions control vavle taken off and thrown away. Still p1ssing down with rain wind now upto force 8.
Journey upto Aberdeen and every white van man was on that route and all out to get me.
Onto ferry and think I can relax but no the captain says we have a force9 to contend with overnight and the crossing may be a bit rough. BIT ROUGH he was having a pisstake. You couldn't stand the curtains were horizontal and people were puking everywhere. one moment we were looking at the sky next at the bottom of the North sea. and this continued all the way to shetland. got off ferry and it was still p1ssing down.
But my nice wife had a hot bath ready for me.
So I am back and thankful for being on dry land again

Just think about all the stories you can tell the kids about the time you went to the mainland. :)
It should keep them enthralled for ages on those long winter nights........:)
I was about to say the same Black hack.. it's stories like that that make biking worth while.
He could turn it into a Saga to rival the exploits of Beowolf. :D

Glad you got home safe m8! hope we get the chance to party with you again sometime.
god has just gave you a good story by putting you through all of this otherwise he would have had the ship sink or a white van bop you one so realy you must be a good lad and he rewarded youwith all this just so you could tell a nice story to all of us.

Wotcha.
Force nine ? Mere 'park pool' weather. ;)
We hit force ten on the way to the 1987 Simmer Dim rally - there were all manner of clangs and bangs coming from below decks. Luckily those good fellows from P&O had lashed all the bikes down and given 'em a nice old matress each 'just in case'. Only one row of bikes went down - mine was on the top end - the poor buggers below didn't fare too well.
Let sleeping 'Wings lie (http://www.moonshiners.org.uk/showme/1987-022.jpg)
In all fairness to P&O, they took full responsibility and had a guy waiting with cheque book in hand once we got back to Aberdeen.
I really must do the Simmer Dim again one day, a most enjoyable rally, and the getting there is all part and parcel of the experience.

Yah it was the trials of Job alright, major respect for your bravery/stamina/glorious foolishness.... .. "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"
I thought I had it bad with London as a base of operations, but at least when I head home from a gig it's towards the equator and warmer climes (in theory at least!)

Unfortunately I shall be washing my hair that weekend.

I remember when travelling to the TT a couple of years ago, thinking 'well at least the bikes can't fall over' cos they was all packed together so tight there was nowhere for them to fall!
An eoic journey inded Sheltie! Hope it was worth it!
