After many long hours of working on me trike it is on the road, BUT k100 and sooty van axle is not good top end 70mph which makes a 50 mph cruising speed of 5.500rpm which is not good for a bike that redlines at 7.500rpm, as u might guess it gets hot and drinks the fuel not to mention the screaming engine.
Im running 195 85 15 tyres i realy need 40% more gearing so im going to fit tractor tyres( i think not) changing the diff is out of question as far as i know because of no diff choice?
So im looking to amputate the offending sooty axle and replace it, can anyone recommend a good replacment to ovver come my troubles, do u know anyone who has built bmw k100 trike ?what did they use?
Im looking at a good old faithful mk1/2 axle cause their are plenty of diffs avalible.

Hi Jon.....

I've got a K100 trike with a Reliant axle and 14" BMW 4 stud (3 Series I think) wheels. It goes like **** off a shovel - the fastest I've had it is 110 and it's still pulling like a train. I get about 35mpg.

I'm thinking of changing to 15" wheels - I'll lose some acceleration (which I can well afford) and gain a it in top end (If I want to go there). It should also give me a bit more mpg.

Here's a pic for you

my r100 bm trike has an escort back axle, redline of the motor is 8k seems geared ok, will sit at 70 to 80mph with no bother, not to busy at that speed either. k should be similar i would think
