Speak to these lovely people electrex world (http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/) - their phone number's on the website (or you can order online, but if you're not sure, speak to them as they know what they're talking about) and they'll see you right. They're cheaper than most peeps and they manufacture their own alternators and Reg/Rec units.
Mrs R's cost £45 and that's for a GT750 - they posted it out Friday Lunchtime and it was here Saturday morning.

Follow the wiring up from the alternator and it'll probably be the first electrical type box that you find. The other wires that come from it will go to the battery and the ignition switch.
It could be worth checking that it's not vibration or something else causing it to blow, some bikes do go up to 15volts.My old Fireblade runs at 15,5v and apparently they're designed to do that.

That's OK for a furryblade though mate as you've got loads of lights and shiny things to power up aint ya? :D I woudn't have thought it would be the same for a little traillie - if the GT goes up to 15v it means your battery's cooked! Believe me, I know this from bitter experience. :D

Lights and shiny things!! All that stuff is long gone on my bike-if I took anything else off it either wouldn't go or it would be blatantly illegal instead of just subtly so ;) :D
Seriously though where electrics are concerned it's always worthwhile checking the manual to see how things should be before spending any money on new bits.Where people don't have the correct manual for their bike then check out the local library,it's surprising how many of the things can be found there.
