an old friends' wife past away at weekend - aged 42.
Joanna carried hereditory Ovarian Cancer , which was failed to be picked up by doctors , time and time again over the last six years or so. when they did diagnose it , it was too late for any real treatment.
During her last few months , Joanna ( an accomplished artist) kept her coffin in the front room of the house , so that her children would not be frightened of it when it was time to be buried. The whole family painted the outside of the coffin , each with their own designs.
Joanna will be buried at home in Stalmine this Saturday - she leaves behind her children and husband of 17 years - Mark.

Joanna's last wish was to set up a charity to raise funds for ovarian screening and education of public and medical staff. On the 3rd of October this year , our annual Hercules Run will be in aid of Joanna's Wish Charity. I'm donating another new trophy this year - Joanna's Wish Trophy for Best British bike ( Brit bikes being their family passion) and Mark will ride alongside us for the day out and award the trophy. I hope you will take the time to look through the scheduling in " Events" threads and see if you can help us support Joannas Wish through the Hercules Run.

Thank you...

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It must make it even more frustrating that maybe something possibly could have been done. I hope the fundraising goes well for you.

ovarian cancer really is a silent killer

I am so sorry for your loss Mr Chaz, she sounds like such a wonderful person

it surely is true what they say about the good ones?

btw was she featured in a woman's magazine recently? I remember seeing an article about a girl who knew she didn't have long left who painted her coffin blue with stars and moons on it and kept it at home...

was that her?

yep...that was her - she got a lot of publicity for her illness.
I hadn't spoken to her for years ( in fact - stayed well away!), but saw her hubby occasionally - he used to ride with our club many years ago. I thought it would be the right thing to do to include her "wish" within our charity run this year.
Joanna didn't want Mark to carry on riding , incase he injured himself and wasn't there to look after the kids - but this run has fired him up again to roll his bike out of the shed and get his face in the wind.

If anyone's interested in sending donations to her charity , I can put them in touch with Mark if they private message me.

I think it best that any monies donated should go directly to Joanna's Wish , if they aren't collected on the day of the run. Will speak to Mark and see if they have a po box addy or whether he's ok with me posting his home address.
Details will be posted back on this thread within 7 days , so anyone thinking of donating money can send it directly , or anon , or with a letter of support , or whatever.....
Thank you to everyone who has private messaged me about this - your support is appreciated and much needed.

Okay folks - I saw Mark today and I don't think he's ready to talk about donations etc just yet.
So , if you would like to donate to Joanna's Wish - do it via the run. All donations should be sent to mr.chairman -
Geoff Madden - Oak Lea Farm , Head dyke Lane , Pilling , Preston. PR3 6SJ.

Please send your name and return address and we'll send you back a receipt. During the run , we'll present Mark with the money and a list of donations - good wishes etc. That way he can contact you all to say thank you in his own time ( if that makes sense).

Thanks again-
Chaz

Okay good folks - just did the route of the run last weekend as a tester, should be a good one! Lots of little back roads and great scenary - should turn into a Magical Mystery Tour for some people though.

I've just finished the entry forms , so I can e mail them to anyone who would like one - it has all the route directions and itenary for the day. You can just turn up and sign in on the day - no probs.

Thanking you...

If you're in the area the night before , 2nd October, then the local boozer - THE SEVEN STARS , Stalmine (on the A588), will be putting on a hotpot supper for us all.
£2 - a head , with a £1 from each being donated to The Hercules Run , courtesy of Lance , the chef.
If you fancy a beer , a bit of nosh and a giggle , then get yourself down - from 8pm.

No worries ( although it is a shame you can't get down Saturday - I have 25 litres of my homebrew wine finishing for then!)
- thanks for all your help and raffle contributions.
If you do get free on the Sunday , and fancy a run out - then you could always pick up the "procession" at Devils' Bridge or Shap , or maybe even go straight to Holker Hall and join the end of the run.
Let's hope the weathers' fine!
Cheers,
Chaz

OMG 25 Liters of homebrew (don't tempt me to put emma in the panniers)

What time do you think you will be at devils bridge ?

well ,if we get set off for 9am - we should be rolling thru DB about 10-30am
it's only 3/4 hour away , but we let the slower classic bikes lead.
We'll be rolling down the side of DB and onto Sedburgh.
If you PM me your mobile , I can text you when we set off - just incase it runs a little late. The local press usually want photos as we set off and I'm in with a chance of getting the TV too, so all may not go according to plan.

25 litres of Hercules Homebrew - will pack a couple of litres off to you once I've bottled it!
:)

Righto folks - talk about "voices from the grave".....
Joannas hubby , Mark , was rummaging through her stuff and found around 300 of these British bike prints she did in 1992. Joanna was an established artist and technical illustrator in her younger years. Anyway , they never got around to selling them much and so they languished in an old box in the attic.

Unfortunately , you can't buy them signed or numbered by the artist , but they can be bought in a set for £30 plus P&P. They are on a good quality paper and are A3 size. Range consists of Bonnie , G80 Matchless , commando , Goldstar , Rapide and Panther.
All money collected will go straight to her charity.

I am trying to get a set to give to Pat for doing a free comp in the magazine too!

Make a good gift for Crimbo-
Further info ring Mark - 07949 144709

Thanks for letting me post them here .

Pat - can you unsticky this please? Many thanks.

Stayed fine and sunny all morning ...great run. P*ssed down for the afternoon though! Many thanks to Holker Hall , Raceways Motorcycles , Carbon Can co , Whitbread Brewary , Crow Online ( Gary and Lynne!!!) , Khameleon coulours ( Mr.Danny !!!!) , Seven Stars Pub.
A good turnout across the board from sportsbikers ( yeah those guys you all slag off!!!!) , Sunday bikers , Classic bikers etc... The only missing contingent was the local "Rally clubs" who had promised to turn up and never did ( same old...same old...Thank you for reminding me why I stopped doing local rallies over the last 20 years)

Again... thank you , thank you , thank you , thank you.
