ummm
well the first bit is a load of bollocks,
uninsured drivers raise our premiums £30.00 per year.
ok maybe so. but if they crush every uninsured car in the country i'd bet that our premiums would'nt go down £30.00. it would be swallowed up by that old excuse. "admin costs".

As I dont believe there are many quote "£15000.00 cars" being driven without insurance it is more likely that those who drive the couple hundred quid bangers (thats not to say that all people who drive these vehicles drive without insurance etc.) will just go out and buy another banger and start all over again. Something needs to be done with the driver. ( like hang them)

stand by to be shocked........... did you know that West Midlands Buses are NOT insured for the road...........its true, they have to have a pot of at least £50,000 to cover any accidents but they are insured for personal injury, seems a nice fair type of law where buses dont need insurance but i need it on a motorbike and a car. NICE!!!!!

that has changed now (i finished working for travel west midlands 18 months ago)
they used to have block insurance wherby they deposited a sum of money with a governmental dept, and they could manage their own claims, the money deposited was collateral to show that they could afford to pay out there own insurance claims, this was when the company employed its own lawyers
but this has changed now and they are covered under normal insurance now (St Pauls Insurance) (they realised that by sacking all the lawyers and admin staff it worked out cheaper to get normal insurance cover)

But remember its a cheap form of motoring, the guy next door to me works in a car showroom the trade-ins they get are given away at cost anywhere between £25 and £200 these people who buy them wont insure them as the insurance is more than the cars worth. They could in effect drive round all day so long as they kept below the speed limit, the coppers if they see any wont bother with them. When the pack in there left where they drop. I dont know a way out of this problem with out draconian measures.

I dont know how many times I have put forward my thoughts on this "uninsured driver" problem, only to have the world and his wife come up with every pathetic excuse as to why it wouldn't work.So here goes again....this goverment needs to either follow the example of some of our foreign friends and issue new plates to vehicle owners each year on production of insurance and road worthiness certificates, this way the police can see immediately by the plate on the vehicle whether or not the insurance etc is current i.e.last years plate = no cover = pull the b*stard over and nick 'im.camera's would pick up the plate as well and as the plates are issued to individuals and non transferable then there is not a lot of ways round it.
OR............
put the cost of fuel up to include a basic third party insurance cover.(this is where the arguements about "I'm 57 and been driving for 41 without a claim, why should i pay the same as a 17 year old hooligan "begin ). The answer is simple........the insurance cover included in the cost of fuel would provide basic 3rd party cover to pay out to people who were involved in an accident, this way there can be nobody waiting for years to get compensation for being hit by an uninsured Turkish immigrant.
One of the arguements somebody put forward about this idea last time this subject was discussed was that people who's cars were knackered would just trash them and try to claim from the government insurance...GET REAL DUDE, we are talking about basic 3rd party insurance which is paid for every time you buy fuel to drive your vehicle on the road. LOOK... no buy petrol = no drive engine=no knock man off bike.
If you want super duper insurance you buy it separate. Then you can put in a false claim after you've set fire to it.
Patronising, non sensible and argumentative only replies please

Why not have third party only petrol/diesel and full comp petrol diesel with a dye in it, then we could all fake our accidents, compo claims, using food dye or paint. Dye for fuel now on sale at Ewokandtuck's Trading Empire for only £350/Fl Oz.

PS How Many pounds per gallon do you think the government would put on? More than necessary, that's for sure.

ive always maintained, that the government should have a third party insurance policy, available to any one with a drivers licence, regardless of what they have done, or what they drive.....it could evn go the way of the excise licence, i.e if you drive a vehicle of a certain cc you get charged more of less respectivly....this would be displayed as another disk the same as the tax, or it could even be on the same disk..you go into the post office and pay the sum when you buy your tax disk, and any car with out a tax disk on the public high way, regardless of age or worth would be seized for resale, or scrap value. Any driver found driving a car with out a valid tax/insurance gets an automatic 12 month ban (unless the disk is lost or stolen, as this can now be found out at the side of the road if a valid disk has been issued for the vehicle)
I just wonder what the gov could, or would do with the extra funds?
